8:40 pm. Félix Dolci CAN SR: Maltese down to iron cross, planche, back giant to handstand is good, front to handstand maybe a hair short, saltos to straddle sit, presses to handstand, a little short but adjusts, double double stuck!!! OH GOD. 13.800 (5.4, 8.400)

8:38 pm. René Cournoyer CAN SR: Nice high planche to maltese, hang to maltese, hang with a back giant to handstand, some adjusting, front to handstand better, saltos to pike sit, presses to handstand, adjustments, double double with a lunge back. 13.633 (5.4, 8.233)

8:35 pm. Fabian de Luna MEX SR: Maltese down to iron cross, inverted pike with a forward swing to planche, hip angle could be tighter, front giant to handstand, saltos to maltese, adjusted going out to iron cross, kip to planche, legs started low then went high, big struggle on the back giant to handstand, full-in half-out with a launch forward. 13.266 (5.6, 7.666)

8:33 pm. Touch for the second half now!

8:30 pm. Alejandro de la Cruz CUB SR: Roll through to maltese to iron cross, inverted hang to planche, so nice, back giant to handstand was shaky and needed adjusting, saltos to maltese, a little shaky, front pike to iron cross, front giant to handstand is REALLY short, bent elbows, double double, deep with steps back. 13.333 (5.9, 7.433)

8:27 pm. Daniel Villafañe ARG SR: Maltese, through to inverted cross, swing through to planche, saltos to iron cross was strong, inverted hang up to maltese dropped to iron cross, front giant to handstand arched over, full-twisting double layout, looked stuck! YESSSSS. 14.133 (6.0, 8.133)

8:24 pm. Kristopher Bohorquez COL SR: Inverted hang with a swing up to planche, down to hang and then out to maltese, hang with a kick back out to maltese, hang before rolling into his salto elements to iron cross, superb transition, another iron cross element, front giant to handstand took the tiniest adjustment, back to handstand kind fell out a bit, full-in dismount with a little hop. 13.666 (5.6, 8.066)

8:19 pm. Colt Walker USA SR: Iron cross, down to inverted hang, up to planche that he pushes right up to handstand, SO nice. Saltos to planche, back giant to handstand, front giant to handstand, both are really solid. Double double with a hop back. This was great! 13.666 (5.4, 8.266)

8:14 pm. Rings athletes are being introduced!

8:10 pm. Uneven Bars Final Standings

1. Zoe Miller, United States, 14.666
2. Rebeca Andrade, Brazil, 14.333

5. Aurélie Tran, Canada, 13.100
6. Ava Stewart, Canada, 13.100
7. Jordan Chiles, United States, 12.400
8. Paulina Campos, Mexico, 11.400

8:07 pm. Aurélie Tran CAN UB: Maloney to Pak, clean on both. Good handstand before the van Leeuwen, nice turn, clear hip to toe full arched over a bit, took a swing before the blind change to straddle Jaeger, rushed out of that handstand after, double layout, step back.

8:03 pm. Paulina Campos MEX UB: Van Leeuwen, not enough of a release off the low bar and she can’t grasp the high bar, comes so close but hands were in line with the bar and not really over it. Blind change to piked Jaeger, Shang to Pak, Maloney, also no lift for that and she falls again. Back on to finish strong, full-in dismount. She did the Shang in the touch before prelims the other day but I believe fell and didn’t end up competing it, glad she went for it here and got it even though she had other struggles! 11.400 (5.7, 5.700)

7:58 pm. Jordan Chiles USA UB: Toe full was a little wonky in terms of her hip form, but connects to the piked Tkachev to Pak, Maloney to Gienger, great. Short handstand before the blind change to piked Jaeger, way too close to the bar, hit her feet on the bar before falling hard to her back, looked like it knocked the wind out of her. Thankfully takes a breath and gets back up, does the bail to toe shoot, nice lift, and nails the full-in dismount. 12.400 (5.2, 7.200)

7:56 pm. Zoe Miller USA UB: Inbar full to Chow half, great handstand before the inbar half to straddle Jaeger, Downie to Pak, slight leg separation, another good handstand before the clean van Leeuwen, double layout, some leg separation, small hop. 14.666 (6.4, 8.266)

7:51 pm. Ava Stewart CAN UB: Stalder full to Maloney to Tkachev, nice handstand before the stalder, slight arch, to clean Pak, solid van Leeuwen, blind change to front giant to piked double front, deep with a lunge forward, but no fall! 13.100 (5.6, 7.500)

7:47 pm. Ahtziri Sandoval MEX UB: Shaposh to Pak, nice and clean. Good handstand before the Maloney to bail to toe shoot, caught maybe a little close but didn’t mess with her rhythm, Gienger with slight leg separation, double double stuck!!!! 13.466 (5.7, 7.766)

7:44 pm. Rebeca Andrade BRA UB: Maloney to stalder full to piked Tkachev to Pak, so nice on everything! Great handstand before the clean van Leeuwen, another good handstand before the blind change to piked Jaeger, came REALLY high and close, broke her rhythm but she fought through it, blind full to full-in with a hop. 14.333 (6.1, 8.233)

7:41 pm. Flavia Saraiva BRA UB: Toe full with a little hip action to the piked Tkachev to Pak, good correction after the pirouette, toe-on to Maloney to Gienger, some leg separation on the Maloney, blind change to front giant to double front, tiny step, WOW. That was great for her. 13.733 (5.6, 8.133)

7:38 pm. Forty minutes for that medal ceremony situation and finally we’re getting started with bars! Touch warmups about to begin.

6:57 pm. Pommel Horse Final Standings

1. Zachary Clay, Canada, 14.400
2. Jayson Rampersad, Canada, 14.333
3. Nelson Guilbe, Puerto Rico, 14.133
4. Cameron Bock, United States, 13.933
5. Stephen Nedoroscik, United States, 13.766
6. Luca Alfieri, Argentina, 13.533
7. Edward Gonzales, Peru, 12.900
8. Santiago Mayol, Argentina, 12.866

6:51 pm. Jayson Rampersad CAN PH: Scissors, clean Sohn, single pommel and transition work goes well, Russians down the horse, does it a second time with minor hip form and maybe rushes a little, very smooth into the dismount, just lands a little low but this was great.

6:48 pm Zachary Clay CAN PH: Hit the opening, circles go well between the different level transitions, travels well, excellent up into the pirouette for the dismount, fantastic routine. 14.400 (5.7, 8.700)

6:45 pm. Edward Gonzales PER PH: I wasn’t typing but this was a good routine, nice extension in his scissors, but had a little slip right before going into handstand, minor form after that but overall lovely work. 12.900 (5.1, 7.800)

6:42 pm. Nelson Guilbe PUR PH: Scissors through to circles, nice high hips at the start, travels with minor hip form, legs start to come apart closer to the end, Russians at the end of the horse into the dismount. Fabulous! 14.133 (5.6, 8.533)

6:37 pm. Santiago Mayol ARG PH: Scissors to handstand, little adjustments to get up, down to circles, Sohn legs flew into a straddle, good job pulling them back under control, Russians on the single handle caused him to drop his legs down and touch the horse, muscles up into the dismount. A couple moments I thought he’d come off but he said NO WAY. 12.866 (5.5, 7.366)

6:30 pm. Stephen Nedoroscik USA PH: Scissors went well but he went wild on the Busnari, whacked his legs against the horse coming down, Russians on the single handle looked like he was floating, one-arm circle was good, losts some hip form on the circles after that, Russians go well, gets more confident in the traveling before the dismount but he almost doesn’t get to handstand, just barely makes it over. 13.766 (6.6, 7.166)

6:28 pm. Luca Alfieri ARG PH: Scissors to circles, Russians across the horse, then travels in circles, really straight hips throughout, and he’s so clean into the dismount, this was lovely. 13.533 (5.0, 8.533)

6:26 pm. Cameron Bock USA PH: Scissors through to circles go well, circles at the end of the horse are good, moves to the single pommel and transitions well between the two after that, little Russian element on the single pommel, travels well, only minor form, pretty smooth into the dismount, full pirouette, great routine! 13.933 (5.4, 8.533)

6:23 pm. Athletes are beginning the touch now for the pommels final!

6:17 pm. Women’s Vault Final Standings

1. Rebeca Andrade, Brazil, 14.983
2. Jordan Chiles, United States, 14.150
3. Natalia Escalera, Mexico, 13.333
4. Ahtziri Sandoval, Mexico, 13.216
5. Franchesca Santi, Chile, 12.483
6. Camil Betances, Dominican Republic, 12.349
7. Lucila Estarli, Argentina, 11.966
8. Makarena Pinto, Chile, 11.966

6:14 pm. Rebeca Andrade BRA VT: SHE STUCK THE CHENG!!!!!!!!! Absolutely gorgeous. Her only real deduction is basically right when she lands, her chest is like a few inches more forward than it should be I guess. Honestly give her a 10. Omg, VERY CLOSE. 15.333 (5.6, 9.733)!!!!

Beautiful Yurchenko double full with a small hop back. 14.633 (5.0, 9.633)

14.983 average!!!

6:11 pm. Natalia Escalera MEX VT: Yurchenko 1.5, hop forward. Her form is REALLY nice in the air. 13.600 (4.6, 9.000)

Strong tsuk full for the second vault, again very clean, small hop back. 13.066 (4.4, 8.666)

13.333 average, moves her to second behind Chiles!

6:08 pm. Jordan Chiles USA VT: Beautiful Yurchenko double full! No one does the power and the landings like she does. 14.400 (5.0, 9.400)

Fantastic Yurchenko half-on front layout half, another excellent landing! 13.900 (4.8, 9.100)

14.150 average.

6:04 pm. Franchesca Santi CHI VT: Yurchenko double full, rotation isn’t quite there and she kind of punches out of the landing off to the side off the mat (and almost off the podium). She only did a full in prelims and wasn’t able to do all four events at worlds so it’s great that she’s in the final regardless. 12.200 (5.0, 7.500, -0.3 ND)

Gets the tsuk full around, lands with her chest down and a small hop. 12.766 (4.4, 8.366)

12.483 average.

6:01 pm. Wrapping up the touch for the second half!

5:55 pm. Makarena Pinto CHI VT: Handspring front tuck 1.5, doesn’t get quite the block she needs, loses some leg form throughout as she tries to rush it around, but the landing is rough, stumbles it off the mat. 12.500 (4.6, 8.200, -0.3 ND)

Tsuk full, again doesn’t get the block, ends up tucking it quite a bit, and then stumbles on the landing before sitting it. 11.433 (4.4, 7.333, -0.3 ND)

11.966 average.

5:53 pm. Lucila Estarli ARG VT: Tsuk full, some split legs in the pre-flight, step forward on the landing, chest also leaning forward. 12.766 (4.4, 8.366)

Handspring front pike, doesn’t really rotate it well enough to her feet, is a bit deep when she gets her feet down but then she ends up sitting it. 11.166 (3.8, 7.666, -0.3 ND)

11.966 average.

5:49 pm. Ahtziri Sandoval MEX VT: Tsuk double full, really strong, good landing, kinda hops into her salute. 13.833 (5.2, 8.633)

Handspring front layout half with a couple of big steps back, pretty good in the air though, just a little pike in her hips. 12.600 (4.0, 8.600)

Oh, they downgraded it, that’s mean. 13.216 average.

5:46 pm. Camil Betances DOM VT: Yurchenko full is pretty clean and flared, just takes a step forward and looks to be OOB. 12.666 (4.2, 8.466)

Tsuk layout for her second vault, bounces back out of it into a lunge. 12.033 (3.8, 8.333, -0.1 ND)

12.349 average.

5:45 pm. Fun fact, almost every woman in this final is older than 20, and three are in their 30s! Only Camil Betances is a teenager, and she turns 20 in December. Obsessed.

5:42 pm. The women have been introduced and are beginning the touch!

5:36 pm. Will be back soon with the women on vault!

5:33 pm. Men’s Floor Final Standings

1. Félix Dolci, Canada, 14.233
2. Arthur Mariano, Brazil, 13.933
3. Juan Larrahondo, Colombia, 13.366
4. Santiago Mayol, Argentina, 13.100
5. Rodrigo Gomez, Mexico, 13.066
6. Donnell Whittenburg, United States, 12.700
7. René Cournoyer, Canada, 12.433
8. Yuri Guimarães, Brazil, 11.966

5:31 pm. René Cournoyer CAN FX: Strong double double, small bounce. Front layout to double front, some leg form, hop forward. Tucked full-in was solid. 1.5 to REALLY low and long front full, skids on the landing. Then puts his knee down on the 2.5 at the end. LORD this final. 12.433 (5.3, 7.133)

5:27 pm. Yuri Guimarães BRA FX: Front double full to double front, goes really low and long, OOB, but he stands it up. Front full to piked double front, step forward. Barani down the side. Oh no, messed up his flairs, can’t make it to handstand near the end and has to do it over again! Double full with a small hop. 2.5 with a hop back. 11.966 (5.4, 6.666, -0.1 ND)

5:24 pm. Santiago Mayol ARG FX: First pass was a randi, looked OOB. Lovely handspring double front pike. Front full to double front I think was the third pass, hop forward. 2.5, takes a big leap forward out of it. Think he meant to do a front layout out of that as well. Good double full down the side. Triple full, small hop. 13.100 (5.7, 7.500, -0.1 ND)

5:22 pm. Arthur Mariano BRA FX: Piked double front, clean and PERFECTLY stuck, that was textbook. Front double full to front tuck to front support. 2.5 to front layout, clean. 1.5 to front full, tiny hop to the side. Arabian double front, small hop. Full-in, tiny bounce. 13.933 (5.6, 8.333)

5:17 pm. Donnell Whittenburg USA FX: Front double full to double front, set is really low out of the first skill and he sits the second. Double-twisting double layout with a step back OOB. Front full to piked double front, hop forward. 2.5 to front layout was good. Double double, small hop to the side. Arabian double front half with a hop forward. 12.700 (6.2, 6.700, -0.2 ND)

5:14 pm. Félix Dolci CAN FX: Front full to piked double front is stuck. Double double, small hop back. Front layout to front double full, stuck. Coming for another gold! Double front, small hop back. 2.5 to barani is stuck. Gorgeous stuck triple full. 14.233 (5.9, 8.333)

5:11 pm. Rodrigo Gomez MEX FX: Big randi to start. Too big, he’s basically fully OOB. Hit the second pass, and then a split-leg full-twisting double layout, which I thought was a mistake when I was watching in prelims until I saw it a second time. Hit the 2.5 to front layout and triple full, a little deep with a hop. 13.066 (5.6, 7.766, -0.3 ND)

5:07 pm. Juan Larrahondo COL FX: Either a front full or back 1.5, I missed the entry, to double front, good landing. Double double, a bit deep, hop to the side. Front double full to front tuck full, stuck. Clean double full. 2.5 to front layout, comes out of the first skill a little short but gets it around, a little arched. Triple full really deep to finish, big lunge forward. 13.366 (5.5, 7.866)

5:06 pm. Touch is wrapping up any second now.

5:02 pm. Here they come. Let’s gooooo!

5:01 pm. Athletes should be paraded out shortly and then we’ll get underway with the men on floor!

  1. So if you haven’t seen The Cheng, go to the YouTube channel for someone named Rodolfo Ramos. I would post the link but I don’t know if that’s allowed. It’s got great coverage of it – probably even better if you speak Spanish or Portuguese which I don’t but still. And another great part of the video is watching Jordan Chiles jumping up and down cheering for her … I love seeing so much more of this inter country cheering.
