2. Skye Blakely 113.850 (57.050, 56.800)
3. Kayla DiCello 110.800 (56.850, 53.950)
4. Sunisa Lee 110.650 (55.750, 54.900)
5. Jordan Chiles 110.400 (55.100, 55.300)
6. Hezly Rivera 110.350 (55.300, 55.050)
7. Jade Carey 109.300 (55.050, 54.250)
8. Leanne Wong 108.650 (55.550, 53.100)

8:53 pm. Sunisa Lee FX: Double layout to start, strong. Switch ring to tour jeté half, good control on that landing. 1.5 to front full with a big hop forward. Triple wolf turn, could be a little more polished but not bad! Double tuck, some form in the air, hop.

She needs above a 13.5 to get the bronze.

8:48 pm. Jordan Chiles UB: Clean van Leeuwen, blind change to piked Jaeger, toe full, slightly rished, to piked Tkachev to Pak, she looks really clean overall. Maloney to Gienger, tiniest leg separation. Small hop on the full-in. 14.500!

Kieryn Finnell UB: 13.100

Simone Rose FX: 13.400

8:47 pm. Skye Blakely BB: Wasn’t typing at the beginning but she got everything, front front series just had a slight hip check. Switch to switch half. Hit the jump series to bhs with a slight check. Clean side aerial. Double pike, slow, leg form, chest down, but that’ll do it for silver I think! 14.200

Simone Biles UB: They didn’t show this! Oh, replay! Weiler half to Maloney (wide leg separation) to blind full to big piked Tkachev to Pak, clean van Leeuwen, toe full, rushed and late, to double double, big lunge back. 14.400

Katelyn Jong VT: 12.900

Nola Matthews VT: 13.050

8:44 pm. Marissa Neal FX: Good arabian double front. Hands down on her second pass. Double pike. 12.100

8:42 pm. Kayla DiCello BB: They just announced her and immediately cut away. Okay, we’re back. Triple wolf turn, good. Bhs loso loso, leg form and a BIG wobble. Good save. Switch to switch half, short, to bhs. Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump, short on both jumps. Side aerial. 2.5, lunge forward. 13.050

Tiana Sumanasekera UB: 12.650

Zoey Molomo VT: 13.800

8:41 pm. Addison Fatta FX: Double layout, some foot form in the air and her chest is forward on the landing. Front double full, minor form, good landing. 2.5, comes out of it kind of iffy but lands well enough.

8:40 pm. Lexi Zeiss BB: Got a little iffy in the wolf turn and then came off on the side aerial. Hit the double tuck dismount a bit low with a slide back. 11.600

8:39 pm. Leanne Wong VT: Yurchenko double full, 14.250

Did a Lopez for her second vault, I literally do not even remember it aside from the landing being iffy? But could not describe it to you, my brain said “it’s gone.”

Eveylynn Lowe FX: 13.500

8:38 pm. Joscelyn Roberson UB: Shaposh to clear hip half to Ezhova, legs together!!! Toe full, late, pikes down, Maloney to Gienger, leg separation there, clear hip, full-twisting double layout, step back. 13.200

8:35 pm. Hezly Rivera BB: Side aerial, got the Korbut series and front aerial to jumps series, switch ring was good, double pike, small step. Good for her! 14.100!

Reese Esponda UB: 11.050

Madray Johnson BB: 13.400

8:34 pm. Dulcy Caylor UB: Wasn’t typing at the beginning, caught it from the straddle Jaeger, double layout, chest forward and lands on her toes. 13.200

8:33 pm. Jade Carey VT: Cheng, some hip and leg form, goes a bit crooked, but solid on the landing. 14.600

Strong Yurchenko double for her second vault, again just little form things throughout.

8:31 pm. Jayla Hang FX: Little steps out of the full-in. 1.5 to front full, good. Clean double tuck, hop back. Mostly lovely in her leap work. 12.950

Ashlee Sullivan VT: 13.050

8:23 pm. Rotation 7 Standings

1. Simone Biles 105.350
2. Skye Blakely 99.650
3. Kayla DiCello 97.750
4. Sunisa Lee 97.300
5. Hezly Rivera 96.250
6. Jordan Chiles 95.900
7. Tiana Sumanasekera 95.900
8. Joscelyn Roberson 95.000

8:20 pm. Katelyn Jong FX: I missed what her opening pass was but saw that she hit it. Double tuck in the second run had a hop back. Hop L to tour jeté half. 1.5 to front full, small hop back. Double pike, chest a bit down, hop back.

8:19 pm. Simone Rose BB: Hit the mount but had a big wobble on the back tuck out of the jump series, good save. Double wolf turn, slight lean forward. Think her triple series was bhs loso bhs? Landed it really well. Side aerial was clean. Front aerial. 2.5 with a hop. Lovely work! 12.750

8:17 pm. Zoey Molomo FX: Strong Memmel turn. Double layout, set maybe slightly low but gets through it with ease. Double pike, small hop. Front full for the third pass. Double tuck, small hop. 13.300

Marissa Neal BB: 13.450

8:14 pm. Leanne Wong FX: Double double and double layout, decent landings on both, maybe piked the second layout in the DLO a bit. Whip half to front full. Hop on the double pike. 13.600

Addison Fatta BB: 12.200

Kieryn Finnell VT: 12.950

8:11 pm. Simone Biles VT: Yurchenko double pike, too much power I think, bounces to her back. Still goes 15.000!

Lands the Cheng really well.

Eveylynn Lowe BB: 13.650

8:09 pm. Kayla DiCello UB: Feed cut in just as she was falling on a release. NOOOOOO. Back on for a piked Jaeger, Church with messy legs and had to take an extra swing, Pak, van Leeuwen, hit the dismount, what a bummer. 12.600

8:08 pm. Tiana Sumanasekera VT: Yurchenko double full, really nice form in the air, hop back. 14.150

Lexi Zeiss UB: 13.350

8:06 pm. Jade Carey FX: Double-twisting double layout, good landing. Full-twisting double layout, I feel like her leg form was maybe weaker here than on the double? Could be just angles though. Front tuck through to double tuck, step back. 13.700

8:05 pm. Jayla Hang BB: Had to lean forward on the wolf turn, nice standing loso, off on the tuck full series sadly. Hit everything else, double tuck dismount. 12.200

Joscelyn Roberson VT: Cheng, knee form was really weak, had a big bounce back on the landing. 13.900

8:04 pm. Hezly Rivera UB: Weiler half to toe full, a little rushed, Chow to Ricna, wasn’t super confident on the catch, extra swing before the Pak, Maloney to Tkachev, nice! Full-in was slow and had some form but happy to see her hit that! 13.800

Dulcy Caylor VT: 13.900

8:02 pm. Ashlee Sullivan FX: Didn’t see the first pass. Double layout had a hop back. Front through to double tuck with a small hop. Double pike to finish, hop back. 13.150

8:01 pm. Madray Johnson UB: Wasn’t typing for this but it was a hit routine, had some leg separation at times, but stuck a clean double tuck. 13.000

Nola Matthews FX: 12.850

7:59 pm. Sunisa Lee BB: Check on the loso mount. Front aerial to split jump to back handspring, nice. Lovely on the wolf turn! Switch to switch half to ring jump. Side aerial loso loso, solid. Switch ring. Gainer full dismount, stuck. OKAY! 14.900

7:58 pm. Skye Blakely UB: Stalder half to piked Jaeger, a little low, but gets it around. Downie to Pak, some leg separation. Good handstand before the toe full to van Leeuwen, some leg form there, toe half to front giant to double front half, basically stuck, tiniest movement to steady herself. 14.450

7:57 pm. Jordan Chiles VT: Yurchenko double full, hop back, but really tight in the air. 14.400

7:50 pm. Rotation 6 Standings

1. Simone Biles 90.350
2. Skye Blakely 85.200
3. Kayla DiCello 85.150
4. Hezly Rivera 82.450
5. Sunisa Lee 82.400
6. Tiana Sumanasekera 81.750
7. Jordan Chiles 81.500
8. Joscelyn Roberson 81.100

7:46 pm. Simone Biles FX: Triple double, two steps back. Took one but then looked like she needed the second to kind of steady herself, OOB I think. Front full through to double double, casual. Small hop. Switch leap to tour jeté full, great. Double wolf turn, effortless. Biles to stag, great. Switch full, some foot form. Double layout, SUPER high set omg. Lands it brilliantly.

7:43 pm. Tiana Sumanasekera FX: Hit the full-twisting double layout and double layout pretty well? I think her third pass was a 1.5 to front full, nothing majorly wrong with that. Dismounted with a double pike, a little short with a hop back. Overall nice work. 13.800

7:41 pm. Katelyn Jong BB: Punch front with a bobble. Made it through the wolf turn. Standing loso to back pike, a bit of a mess throughout in terms of form sadly, and ends up really short, can’t hold on, fall. Switch leap to pike jump, LOVE the pike jump, it was so floaty. Double pike, chest down, small hop. 12.450

7:39 pm. Joscelyn Roberson FX: Good landings on both the double double layout and the full-twisting double layout, just some form in both, with the former being weaker for probably obvious reasons. Double layout was decent in the air, hop back. Front layout through to double tuck, step back. Again looks much better than earlier this week! 14.000

7:37 pm. Zoey Molomo BB: Little check on the mount, got the double wolf turn around. Side aerial loso, tiniest check. Switch leap. Strong back tuck. Double tuck with a hop back. Good work! 13.000

Marissa Neal UB: 13.250

7:35 pm. Skye Blakely VT: Just got a replay of her Cheng, landed kind of lock-legged maybe? We had a backwards view but one of her legs was really stiff and her chest was really forward, definitely not as strong as the other night. 14.400

7:34 pm. Dulcy Caylor FX: Hit her first two passes, I wasn’t paying close attention but saw her land them. Wolf turn finish was wild, truly no idea how many rotations it was. Somewhere between two and three? 1.5 to front full with a step. Mostly lovely on the Memmel. Slow to rotate in the double tuck, but got it around with a step back OOB. 12.700

7:31 pm. Leanne Wong BB: Switch leap mount. Switch leap to switch half (a bit short) to straddle jump. Decent enough on the switch ring. Bhs loso with a slight check at the end. UGHHHH, off on the double wolf turn. Front aerial with a check before the jump, no CV. Side somi, tiniest check. 2.5, knees were a MESS, didn’t look like she had the set she needed so she ended up going kind of low and long, landed really low with a big lunge forward. 11.700

Addison Fatta UB: 12850

7:29 pm. Reese Esponda FX: Solid double double to start. Double layout, some form but solid again on the landing. Full-in looked a little slow but she got it around. Made it through the leap series after. Front tuck through to double tuck, chest down. 13.650

Ashlee Sullivan BB: 13.250

Hezly Rivera VT: 13.950

Lexi Zeiss VT: 13.150

Jayla Hang UB: Seeing this in replay, nice Pak, toe-on to van Leeuwen, weak leg form, double layout with some leg separation and a step. 13.600

Eveylynn Lowe UB: 12.700

7:27 pm. Jade Carey BB: Hit the opening, and then a strong bhs loso. Wobbled and fell on a jump, switch side I think? Hit her jump series and dismounted with a double piek, some leg form and a step back. 12.300

7:24 pm. Madray Johnson VT: Yurchenko 1.5, unfortunately sat it. 12.500

Jordan Chiles FX: Full-twisting double layout, tiny bounce. 1.5 through to full-in, another tiny hop. Kind of landed the wolf turn in a shady position. Hop L turn through to tour jeté full. Double layout, really solid! Great job. Shame she had a fall on beam in the first rotation. 14.100

7:22 pm. Sunisa Lee UB: Van Leeuwen, blind change to straddle Jaeger to Pak to Maloney to Gienger, nice. We are SOOOO zoomed in it’s making it impossible to see what some skills are but think that was everything. Toe full to full-in, small hop. 14.500 (5.8, 8.700)

Skye Blakely VT: They didn’t show the Cheng I don’t think, just the Yurchenko double which was her second vault. Looks like the Cheng went 14.400.

Nola Matthews BB: 12.900

7:20 pm. Kieryn Finnell FX: Piked full-in, some form and comes up a little low. Double tuck is mostly solid. 1.5 to front full with a big step to the side. Double pike, slightly deep but hit it no problem. 12.600

Kayla DiCello VT: Yurchenko double full, lots of form things throughout but the landing was everything. 14.350

7:19 pm. Simone Rose UB: Stalder full, a little arch, to Maloney to clear hip to Ray, nice. Stalder half to Ezhova, some legs, a little arch on the handstand before the van Leeuwen, which was nice. Double layout was strong! 13.650

7:13 pm. Rotation 5 Standings

1. Simone Biles 75.250
2. Kayla DiCello 70.800
– Skye Blakely 70.800
4. Leanne Wong 69.100
5. Jade Carey 68.700
6. Hezly Rivera 68.500
7. Tiana Sumanasekera 67.950
8. Sunisa Lee 67.900

7:09 pm. Tiana Sumanasekera BB: Bhs bhs layout, really great landing, tiniest form break in the air on the layout. Front aerial to jump to Korbut, good. Switch leap to switch half, the latter was kind of a mess. Side aerial with a slight check. Full turn. Hit the dismount. 13.550

7:05 pm. Joscelyn Roberson BB: Great on the standing full. Also really solid on the series after. Side aerial loso loso really strong, just some leg form. Full turn, Onodi to jump, hit. Hit the dismount. Great routine! Little things but overall really impressed. 13.750

7:02 pm. Dulcy Caylor BB: Front aerial to split jump to Korbut was a nice series. Side aerial, good. Kind of a low double pike but she got it around with a hop. 12.750

Nola Matthews UB: 13.750

7:01 pm. Why did the USAG website said the senior session started at 7 pm? I got home literally RIGHT on time only for it to be like 20 minutes in? I hate it! Anyway I’m joining the fun NOW.

Also yes, this is literally the first thing I’ve been able to live blog, I’m doing TWO shows (Cinderella and a cabaret) in NYC right now and it just so happens to be the week before our runs start so I’ve been working 9 hours a day and then in rehearsals like 6+ hours every night, though I did have part of the MAG meet on my laptop during Cinderella sitzprobe last night hehe. SORRY FOR HAVING A LIFE for once but I will be at trials at least!

Also when I get a chance I’m gonna go back and do retroactive live blogs for the senior sessions for both MAG and WAG. Just so I can actually see things. I’ve missed so much.

  1. I’m so relieved to hear that you were busy doing something you enjoy and that’s why you’d been absent. I was afraid that something was wrong! Vault seemed to be rough for almost everyone on Day 2 in the second session. After the third rotation I only saw two scores that were the same as Day 1 and I think 3 that were higher. Leanne, Jade, and Jordan did get higher on their vaults. I know that they look for improvement or at least consistency across a two day competition and in that regard only Suni, Jordan, and Jade showed that on the events they’d most likely be used on. However, I feel Jade’s FX score isn’t enough to get her on the team right now, IF Shilese is healthy. I’m hoping to see more consistency at Trials from everyone, particularly on UB and BB where other teams have scores that can overcome or compete with the Biles boost.

    • Yes, thankfully after June 16 I will have my life back! Until then it is a MARATHON and gymnastics is unfortunately not at the top of my list!

Yeah, vault definitely didn’t look as solid from what I saw. Also agree that Jade’s floor isn’t enough to make her necessary for the team, given that other athletes are doing essentially equally or better while also being able to contribute more on bars and beam. Maybe she’s planning on peaking for trials? I feel like that will be the case with a few athletes who weren’t looking fully ready here…but based on this meet I would take someone like Jordan over Jade given that most people’s teams seem to have Simone, Shilese (fingers crossed), Skye, Suni, and then whoever else fits the last spot.

      • So glad you got back for tonight. It wasn’t just you who was confused about the start time either. The coverage didn’t start until 7 and then they just showed what already happened for a while. Weird.

I agree re: Jade. The commentators were pushing her hard but I just don’t see it.

        • It was so weird. The live streaming schedule for the international stream said 7 pm but then I found that the international stream (the YouTube one) started at 6:45 pm? I would have left earlier and rushed home to make it had I known so it was a bummer to have missed basically the entire first rotation, though not a huge deal in hindsight. Just so annoyed in the moment!!!

Yeah, Jade looks fine but I think she has a lot to do on floor to make her “worth” taking, especially since she’s not even top two on vault in terms of those who competed two. Seventh AA, third on vault, and fourth on floor definitely isn’t ideal for either an AAer or specialist when there are so many others who can contribute in more places.

  2. Welcome back! This was such a fun nationals competition! Bummed we’re missing Gabby, Trinity, Kaliya, and Shilese, but they’ll be back in full form soon, I hope.

As much as people hate going by AA rank order, it often works out in team score permutations. In this case there’s Simone, Skye, Kayla and Suni in top 4 and Shi, obviously, if she was here. I think this is a fabulous team. Simone/Shi (AA), Suni (UB/BB), Skye (VT), Kayla (FX). I would probably put Skye up in the AA in qualifications. This team would have a built in well rounded AA’r in Kayla to go up on anything.

I wish there weren’t so many significant errors by Jordan and Leanne, but there were. Neither Jade nor Joscelyn are showing significant contributions on VT or FX in a team lineup, so I am not sure why people keep talking about them other than high difficulty that doesn’t seem to regularly pay off when coupled with execution. Kaliya does not bring enough on FX to justify a spot either, in my opinion, though it is beautiful.

In my opinion for someone to skip over top 5 AA rank order they need to bring nearly a point in the team final score comparative to the next highest scoring team, similar to the men’s rules. The only person I could see doing that in trials is Suni if she doesn’t make top 5 AA.

I cannot wait to see how Hezly and Tiana continue to develop, though seeing Valeri next to Hezly makes me nervous. Tiana’s gymnastics are so beautiful and learning that she put together that FX routine herself is incredible! Such an elegant nod to India and I adore it. I can hardly wait for Trials!
