This Leo Panel features six judges ranking every leo worn in a competition from our most to least favorite using our very scientific and very awesome Leotard Code of Points.
We take deductions from five categories (color, fabric, design, rhinestones, and appearance on the gymnast, in order of how you’ll see them on our scoresheets). Each category is worth two points. We add the categories together to get each judge’s individual score, drop the highest and lowest scores of the six, and average the remaining four together to get the final score.
The second Leo Panel looks at the leotards worn by the gymnasts during qualifications at Worlds. Note- as “science-y” as we pretend to be, this is all just based on opinion – i.e. our personal tastes and favorites. It is by no means a definitive list of the best and worst! What leo was your favorite?

It kinda grew on me, but that may be because they wore it for literally everything – podium training, prelims, team finals, all around, and event finals. I never saw a Japanese gymnast in anything else. Is it normal for a team to only bring one leo for the entire competition?

I loved China’s! I would have preferred all the one white too, but it was so pretty..maybe moreso in action. Japan’s was one of my favourites of the whole competition and I really liked Vietnam too.

I liked Japan’s leo too. I agree with you on team USA’s quals leo. Too hot pink. Loved the AA leo, it looked like the dress from Sleeping Beauty. My favorite team USA leos were the team final one and the day two event finals leo.

Among the team’s leos that represent the country flag, my favourite were the ones worn by Canada (which is always very creative with that leaf!!), Netherlands and Poland; then I actually adore the Russian teal leo, but that’s because I deeply love teal 🙂 I also thought that Italy would have ranked higher, I like their new leo, even if it looks a bit too “full” (since I0m Italian, I like the way we keep, for team competitions, the country colours!).

Great Britain’s definitely my favorite (almost always are in the leo competition) so I’m glad to see them at #2! I can’t believe how high the American leo is, though.
Why has China started (and kept with) this trend in their leos where they have mesh sleeves and then a different fabric for the “underpants” part of the leo than the fabric for the rest of the body? It doesn’t look good.

Ha, the comment regarding the Swiss leotard and Ms Frizzle was spot-on… I loved the Canadian leo, and actually liked the Japanese leo – just maybe not for a team competition. It seems like an excellent choice for an all around or event final.
