We’re coming at you live from the American Cup at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas! The competition is now getting underway, and we’re bringing all of the action to you if you can’t watch live. Refresh your browser to see updates, with the most recent appearing at the top!

1:59 pm. With a 14.933, Skinner earns a 57.832 for silver. Biles easily has gold by nearly 5 points with a 62.299, and the real surprise of the day is Fasana with bronze, earning a 56.633 to edge out Lopez with a 56.365.

For the men it’s Verniaiev with a 90.597, Kato with a 90.098, and Whittenburg with an 89.932.

1:54 pm. Skinner finishing things up for the women on floor. Went for the Moors and she hit it! Best it’s looked all week. Not the best, but definitely good considering. Double double with a tiny bounce back. 1.5 through to 2.5. Full-in a bit low in the knees but she stands it up and will probably score decently. She needs a 13.7 or something in that range to tie Fasana, and she’ll definitely get it.

Biles gets a casual 62.299 after a 16 on floor. YES, a 16.

1:51 pm. Verniaiev is at 90.597 with Whittenburg at 89.932 and Mikulak at 88.598. A great comeback for Mikulak after his first two routines, and also how excellent for Oleg, who is the greatest little dude alive. Kato is finishing up on high bar so he could break into that pack. His layout Tkatchev is caught well, Kovacs I think, really quick pirouetting, jam full, hop full, hits dismount. He’s the only one who dismounted facing the opposite way I think, no idea why this excites me.

1:48 pm. It’s BILES TIME on floor! Double layout full with a hop back like it’s nothing. Biles to split jump. Again. Nothing to her. Double double as a casual third pass. Full-in. YAWN. She’s like, when does the hard stuff start?

With a 14.4 on floor, Fasana jumps AHEAD OF J.LO with a 56.633!!!!! WOW.

1:46 pm. Whittenburg on high bar now, hoping to secure the title. Some leg separation issues. Sam’s really vocal right now. “It’s eeeeasy, you got this. Let’s go Don Don. Yeaaaah. Nice and easy Breathe. Keep it going. Let’s finish it up now. Let it flow, let’s get it Don-Don, it’s all you baby, come on!” I LOVE SAM BASICALLY. Godzilla does a little “gimme some noise” gesture to the crowd and some little girls yell “we love you Donnell.” BLESS.

1:44 pm. Fasana opens with a big double layout, looks easy for her. Nails full-in. Y turn. I love her little finger wave in her choreo. Nails the double pike. YAAAAS Erika!!! What an awesome day (and year) she’s had. From Ferrari’s shadow to joining her on the main stage.

1:42 pm. Tanaka crashed his dismount to his knees after an otherwise decent routine.

Lopez goes 13.266 (5.2, 8.066) to finish with a 56.365, narrowly edging Ellie Black. These two have been really battling it out at the World Cups, and they’ll find out who gets a huge prize today.

1:39 pm. Jessica Lopez opens with a triple full, slightly underrotated and a tiny bit messy on the landing. Double pike. Rudi I think? I missed it. Some of her choreo looks like Moceanu’s “Devil Went Down to Georgia” choreo, lol. 2.5 with a step.

Verniaiev went 15.066 (6.5, 8.566).

1:38 pm. Oleg killed it on high bar and looks super happy about his life.

Ellie Black finishes with a 56.132, Vanessa Ferrari with a 55.731, Emily Little with a 55.165 which is HUGE FOR HER!!!!!! Natsumi Sasada with a 53.733, Claudia Fragapane with a 52.532.

1:32 pm. Ferrari on floor lands her double layout short and pretty much completely OOB. Full-in, looks like maybe the heel went out? Hits double tuck thankfully. Finishes with a double pike with some leg separation.

Ouch, Fragapane gets an 11.766 (5.9, 8.866). Mikulak goes 15.466 (6.9, 8.566).

1:30 pm. Mikulak on high bar looks excellent, including a hop 1.5, jam half to Tkatchev half, Adler full, I can’t keep up UGH SORRY. Hop full, and the double-twisting double layout with a hop. Looks thrilled and blows out a kiss to the crowd. Little girls are screaming I LOVE YOU SAM but I grabbed the kiss, he’s mine.

1:28 pm. Fragapane opens floor with a double layout full and she’s a bit short on the landing. Sits double arabian. Not her day even a little. Triple is way short in that she’s low, but it’s almost fully rotated…just a scary landing. Basically crashes the double layout. Yep, it’s too early in the season for that tumbling. Does not look pleased.

1:26 pm. Likhovitskiy gets 14.8 (6.4 / 8.400). Torres Serrano on high bar now, I caught it from the jam half, Tkatchev half, endo full, and then he loses form on a kip and has to regroup but doesn’t fall. Double layout full I believe.

Sasada got a 12.2 (5.1, 7.100) and Little got a 13.7 (5.4, 8.300).

1:24 pm. Little’s turn on floor. She’s had a very impressive day. Her floor routine starts with someone taking a big breath…doesn’t Ferrari’s also? Piked full-in is NAILED! Where’s the applause?! Tucked full-in, OOB. 1.5 through to double full. Nails double pike.

1:20 pm. Sasada on floor. 1.5 to front full, which she sits. Too bad. Double tuck with a small hop. Double full. Double pike with her chest down. Not a very difficult routine, and it’s a shame about the fall.

Purvis goes 14.3 on hb (6.2 / 8.100). Black gets 14.3 on floor (5.7 / 8.600).

1:19 pm. Purvis is being cheered heavily by Mikulak who is basically coaching him through his routine. Jam half, stalder 1.5, stalder, hop full, double twisting double layout with a hop. He has a little grin on his face.

1:15 pm. From Calvo’s high bar routine I didn’t see much, just his dismount, which he looked like he hit (double twisting double layout I think?). In the replay there’s a layout Tkatchev.

Black will start things off on floor. She opens with a 2.5 through to double tuck, which she sticks cold (though her twisting form is a bit off). Front double full with a step. Punch front full through to double pike, looked SO close to the edge and yet was so controlled.

1:13 pm. Last rotation for the women will be Black, Sasada, Little, Fragapane, and Ferrari in the first half and then Lopez, Fasana, Biles, and Skinner in the second. For the men it’ll be Calvo, Purvis, Likhovitskiy, Torres Serrano, and Mikulak and then Verniaiev, Tanaka, Whittenburg, and Kato.

1:06 pm. Lopez gets a 13.166 (5.4 / 7.766) and she’s still in second place by about two tenths.

Little on beam does a punch front, front aerial to sissone, bhs loso, switch to switch side, and a 2.5 with a step. Nice job!

1:03 pm. 14.266 for Black (6.2 / 8.066) and 14.933 for Mikulak (6.3 / 8.633).

Lopez on beam now. Excited for this. Switch leap, UGH NOOOOO AND SHE’S OFF ON THE BHS BHS LAYOUT. WHY JLO WHY. THIS IS YOUR DAY. Well that opens things up…switch half, front aerial to sheep with knees apart, side aerial to sissone, side somi, full turn, double full…supposed to be a 2.5 I’m pretty sure but she came off really short out of the bhs.

12:59 pm. Mikulak on p-bars has a suuuuuper high skill and I wish I knew what it was but he got some great height (a pike I think but I’m dumb). Hops his dismount back a tiny bit but looks thrilled.

Black up on beam. Double turn has a small check, and then a big one. Ugh. Punch front pike. Her flight series makes me nervous. Bhs layout is no problem, though. Bhs tuck full with a slight wobble but she’s fine. Switch to switch half, a little short on the latter. Punch front pike with a check. 2.5 with a hop to the side. Definitely a bit messier than she’s capable of but still, she stayed on!

Ferrari goes 13.866 (5.7 / 8.166).

12:54 pm. 13.533 for Skinner on beam (5.3 / 8.233).

Torres Serrano going up on p-bars. I only saw the end again, it’s too quiet! Double pike with chest down and a hop.

Ferrari on beam does a nice planche, roundoff layout with her leg up that’s so controlled it looks like it could be it’s own skill. Layout to scale. Front aerial to sheep. Switch half. I think I missed some jumps early on. Switch ring with a bobble, double pike with leg separation. Out of the Italians, I think Fasana has looked a lot more prepared.

Torres Serrano gets a 14.3 (6.2 / 8.100).

12:49 pm. Skinner mounts beam and my heart implodes, typical. Ugh, a huge check on the bhs tuck full and her leg comes up, and that’s after nailing it all week. Switch half is weird, she does the leap and then the twist, not simultaneous. Switch to back pike is solid. Side aerial. Full L turn looks better than it has in training. Split to wolf jumps, sticks double tuck with her chest down a tiny bit.

Purvis goes 15.033 (6.6 / 8.433).

12:47 pm. Calvo gets a 15.533 (6.9 / 8.633) on p-bars. I missed his routine entirely? Things move so fast here. Fragapane gets 13.5 (5.4 / 8.100) and Biles gets a 15.066 (6.3 / 8.766).

Purvis on p-bars now, just saw the dismount which was a double pike with a hop back.

12:43 pm. Verniaiev gets a nice 15.9 on p-bars (7.1 / 8.800).

Biles on beam looks like she’s shaking off a few nerves before her mount. A little shaky on the wolf 2.5, but hits jumps easily. Front aerial to split jump. Nails bhs loso loso. Side aerial. Switch to switch half with a big check and her leg up but she saved it, no connection to back pike. Punch front. Full-in with a hop forward. Not her best effort but she had over a point between herself and second place after just two rotations so yeah, she’s fine.

12:39 pm. Verniaiev on p-bars. Again with the pretty toes. Little bobble on a handstand and then hits his double tuck half out dismount with a little hop.

Fasana gets a 13.8 (5.4 / 8.400).

Fragapane does a switch leap to wolf jump, bhs layout no problem, full turn, front aerial, niiiice standing full! Gets applause. Side aerial with a big check but she fights like hell and holds it. Bhs bhs double pike with a hop.

12:35 pm. Godzilla goes 15.4 on p-bars (6.9 / 8.500). Tanaka up now and his kip into a press handstand is very pretty. Double back pike dismount with a step.

Fasana on beam now. Split mount, bhs layout a tiny bit piked, switch to back tuck or pike, I couldn’t really see her leg form from here. Full turn is good. Split to wolf jump. Nice switch half. Side somi, front aerial, hits the double pike with a step. She’s having a great day!

Sasada 14.2 (6.0 / 8.2), Tanaka 15.466 (6.6 / 8.866).

12:31 pm. Whittenburg begins on p-bars. Again, I’m bad with skills here so I’m not gonna pretend. He hit…I think someone in the crowd just called him Godzilla? I’m crying laughing. Oh, it’s Donzilla and he apparently hates it, according to Joe Rinaldi. I’m just gonna call him Godzilla.

Sasada up on beam. Hits her roundoff layout. Punch front is nice. Side aerial. Her work is really clean so far…tiny check on her front aerial, check on a jump, switch to split, double pike with a step. She’s gotta be happy with that.

12:23 pm. Ferrari on bars does some quick pirouette work including an Ono directly into her release, bail to toe shoot, clear hip, toe on, full-in with a tiny bounce.

MIkulak gets a 15.333 (6.0 / 9.333). Likhovitskiy I believe just does a Yurchenko 1.5 with a step.

Black up now on bars. Clear hip to Shang (clear hip + piked Tkatchev named for Shang Chunsong), and UGH, she misses it. Just like in warmup. Blind to straddle Jaeger to pak to switch kip, toe ton to toe shoot caught a tiny bit close, finishes with a stuck toe front layout half dismount.

Likhovitskiy got a 14.1 (4.8 / 9.300).

12:20 pm. Mikulak up on vault gets the crowd riled up again before going, tsuk triple, his form looks a bit tucked when he first leaves the table but he straightens out and hits it.

14.266 for Skinner (5.9 / 8.366) which is about the best she can do there, so good for her.

12:17 pm. Simone gets a 15.033 on bars (6.1 / 8.933).

Skinner up on bars now…Maloney to pak (leg sep), van Leeuwen (caught it, some form issues), blind half to toe full to huge Tkatchev! Toe on to Ray, maybe a little close, sticks full-in. DAMN. From what I saw in training that looked 900% improved.

Torres Serrano gets a 14.566 on vault (5.6 / 9.066 / -0.1). Missed it completely?! Literally didn’t know it happened.

Simone’s score got bumped from a 15.033 to a 15.2, lol.

12:15 pm. Whittenburg has a 60.166 after four events which would definitely win him a women’s title. YOU GO GIRL. Unless Simone is your competition.

Biles on bars does a Weiler half to Maloney, toe full to big Tkatchev, catches piked Tkatchev to pak (her upgrade) no problem. Toe shoot, toe on, sticks full-in. For her weakest event, she still makes it look good.

Only saw the end of Purvis’s vault and it looked like a Yurchenko 1.5 and he was like, almost tucked?! 13.8 (4.8 / 9.000). Yikes.

12:13 pm. Mykayla’s Tkatchevs look really nice in warmups, and she sticks the full-in. That’s some of the best bar work I’ve seen her do. Simone looked fine. Ellie missed her piked Tkatchev but had a really aggressive approach and caught the Tkatchev to pak.

12:10 pm. Fragapane on bars now. Toe half to piked Jaeger, and she caught it! Ugh, but misses the Church. That’s what she had been missing in training. Every single time. Pak salto, leg sep on a handstand, toe shoot is caught close but doesn’t go into a dead hang, giant full, great double layout, just a hop.

12:08 pm. Fasana up on bars…toe full, Maloney (a little leg separation as she catches) to giant full, Ray is nice, bail to toe shoot (pointed toes!!!), toe on, NAILS the double layout! Solid effort.

Sasada gets a 13.5 (5.3 / 8.200).

12:05 pm. Verniaiev does the double front half out as well, pretty cowboyed, a bit of a low landing, and he hops to the back.

Sasada up on bars. Jam to Jaeger caught very close but doesn’t cause her any problems and it’s a really cool combo, giant full to Tkatchev, bail to Ray, hit dismount.

13.166 for Little (5.3 / 7.866). 15.233 for Verniaiev (6.0 / 9.233). Calvo gets a 14.933 (5.6 / 9.333).

12:02 pm. Whittenburg does his double front half out and it’s super powerful. I can’t get over how strong he is. 15.3 (6.0 / 9.300).

Little up on bars, nervously spraying them down as she waits for Lopez’s score and the green light. Tanaka vaults while this is going on and I missed it because no one announced it.

Little finally going…Maloney to bail to toe on to toe shoot, all nice, toe shoot maybe caught a little close. Straddle Jaeger, muscles up a handstand before the dismount, legs come apart, but she pulls it off! nice cover. Hits the double layout! Just a hop. Nice. She did that to her knees a couple times in podium training.

Lopez goes 14.933 (6.5 / 8.433). WOW. 14.733 for Tanaka (5.6 / 9.133).

11:59 am. I missed the first men’s vault, think it was Kato. There are a million photogs up here and it’s nuts. 15.3 (6.0 SV).

Lopez on bars, piked Tkatchev to pak caught close with legs apart, shaposh (probably Maloney but I missed the release), clear hip full to Tkatchev to Gienger JESUS she works SO FAST. Straddle Jaeger. Double front nice form, tiny hop, and her coach screams “YEAH!” Damn, she’s so fast. I can’t get over it.

11:53 am. Skinner plays it smart and goes for just the DTY after struggling with her Cheng all week. It’s nice, just a hop back. Looked clean from what I could see. 15.1…glad it got better execution than Lopez’s, which I STILL don’t understand.

11:51 am. Mikulak does a little gesture to get the crowd cheering before he goes up on rings. He definitely needs the pick-me-up. His pike positions are really nice and he’s pretty controlled though looks a tad short on some of his work. Sticks the double double though! Looks thrilled.

11:50 am. I missed Torres Serano’s vault due to score catch up, sorry! Biles time! Huge perfect stuck Amanar. It looks like an NCAA FTY. No problem. Oh, in the replay she brings one foot over to join the other, so not really stuck but no hops or bounces or anything. Just cleanup. HUGE 16.033.

11:47 am. Purvis hits his rings, hopping his double double slightly.

Claudia Fragapane of Italy twists her DTY around nicely. Knees are a little bent. Small hop on the landing. LOVE her leo. USA should steal it. JUST CUT OUT THE UNION JACK.

Fasana goes 14.533, Calvo 14.266, Purvis 14.566 (6.1 D).

11:44 am. Calvo hits rings. I’m very confused as to how JLo had a higher vault E-score than Ellie, but *shrug* I’m not a judge.

Erika Fasana of Italy does a DTY, a little loose in her form, landing with a bent knee and a step…also didn’t get much of a block off the table.

11:40 am. Verniaiev does a double front do double front pike that looks nice, and sticks his double double.

Little gets a 14.766 for her vault, Sasada a 13.833, Verniaiev a 15.266.

11:38 am. “Check yourself before you riggidy wreck yourself” is playing for Tanaka’s rings. Finishes with a double double stumbled back a bit.

Little does a very quickly twisted DTY and she looks happy about it! Just hops it back considerably and then takes another step out of that. Good for her bringing that vault back after over two years away from the sport.

Lopez earned a 15.0, Tanaka a 14.533. Seems to be a problem with rings so Sasada is vaulting. Does an FTY and it’s clean in the air, though a bit off center and she takes a step back.

11:36 am. Whittenburg shows impressive control throughout his routine, most of which I couldn’t see aside from a few awesome feats of strength but judging by the crowd’s reaction it was awesome.

Lopez is doing her DTY…not very big and she fumbled the landing, quickly jumping her legs together after landing with her knees bent and looking a little low.

Black went 14.566! And Whittenburg gets a 15.5.

11:33 am. Kato on rings…double pike to double tuck right up to handstand, front double pike to front double tuck to cross, press handstand looks a tiiiiny bit short but he gets it up and I believe dismounts with a double double (tucked) with a tiny hop.

Black up on vault does a layout tsuk 1.5 and it’s excellent!! Stuck it cold! Maybe a slight pike in her hips. Much better than she’s done in the past.

Ferrari goes 14.133 (5.3/8.833). Kato got a 14.666 on rings.

11:31 am. Likhovitskiy holds a handstand on rings for 900 hours. Double tuck, and kind of drops out of his front double pike like he had no idea he was about to dismount there. Looked weird.

Ferrari does a Yurchenko 1.5, actually looked like she got a nice amount of height and distance there, and just hopped a tiny bit over to the side. Oh, but her body line is definitely a bit tucked.

11:27 am. The women are out to warm up vault while the men warm up on rings. Torres Serrano got a 13.366 with just a 5.6 SV. First up for the women will be Vanessa Ferrari of Italy, Ellie Black of Canada, Jessica Lopez of Venezuela, Emily Little of Australia, and Natsumi Sasada of Japan. For the men, it’ll be Likhovitskiy, Kato, Whittenburg, Tanaka, and Verniaiev.

11:25 am. Last up is Torres Serrano. Legs come apart a tiny bit during his straight body swing thingies, and it looks like his thighs brush a few times making it seem like a close call but he’s fine. Hits!

Purvis went 13.633 with a 6.2 D and Calvo went 14.566 with a 6.5 D.

11:23 am. Purvis is rocking out up there. In his handstand with rotations around the horse he loses his awareness a tad it seems and has to unfortunately come of. If everyone falls off pommel horse, does pommel horse even exist? #Philosophy101

11:21 am. Calvo up now after Oleg’s 14.366 comes in. He has a 7.0 start value which is the biggest D here by quite a lot. Calvo hits his routine, capped off with a stuck dismount.

11:16 am. Tanaka gets a 13.6 with a 6.0 SV. Announcer tried really hard to make Verniaiev sound as Slavic as possible. Bless. He muscles a little at the beginning, and his little handstand walk around is awesome. That’s what it’s called, right? UGH NOOOOOO he gets stuck at one moment right near the end and has to come off. He was the prettiest of all of the pommel workers, that’s for damn sure.

11:13 am. So Whittenburg’s execution was slammed there. In addition to the press issues, he also looked perilously close to coming off once, causing the crowd to go “oooooh.” Gets a 13.966 with a 6.2 start value.

Tanaka is off…bows before getting back on. Chest is down on his dismount…just looks exhausted at this point like he just wants to get off the podium.

11:11 am. Whittenburg winning this thing over Sam would be huge for him. Can you imagine what’s going through his head? He looks calm and is using all 80 of his abs in addition to his ridiculous arms to power through. Struggles on the press handstand but makes it through and hits! Kato’s score was 14.5 with a 6.2 SV.

11:08 am. Mikulak gets a 13.8 with a 6.0 SV. Likhovitskiy works smoothly and steadily through his routine, which looks more difficult than Sam’s. Hit, so yay. 14.966 with a 6.5 SV. Kato is basically doing his routine to the beat of this slammin’ techno playing in the arena. Another hit routine.

11:06 am. So Mikulak is the first up and the first victim, coming off the side of the horse. Sticks dismount though.

11:05 am. I’m not even gonna try to live blog pommel skills but I’ll be like “he fell” or “he survived” and I’ll give scores, cool? My goal in the next year is to learn what is happening on that weird block of MAG career murder. Also I’m like, really far away.

11:00 am. So Tanaka went 15.2 in case I didn’t mention that? Verniaiev went 14.776.

Purvis up now. I still call him Purvy Purv and I have no idea why. Sticks double double. 1.5 to front double full, hit. Double front side pass is excellent. 2.5 I think, to front tuck. Arabian double front with a hop. Good for him!

10:58 am. Calvo opens with a whip to arabian double pike which was basically laid out. Maybe it was a layout but piked? No one knows. Floaty…1.5? Ish? Does it into what looks like a tuck half but he’s way off.

10:55 am. Tanaka gets a 15.2.

Verniaiev hits his double double with just a tiny hop. Front double full to…front tuck 1.5? He hopped the last half twist around. He apparently started with his heel on the white? I couldn’t see. Looked a little off from how he trained I think?

10:52 am. Whittenburg’s floor score is the highest right now with a 15.4. Kato got a 15.066.

Tanaka up on floor now. Tuck full to triple full, front full to front double full, both hit. 2.5 to barani I believe…finishes with a triple. Hit routine.

10:51 am. The question right now for a little kid is “what year did Gabby Douglas win her last American Cup title?” and the answer is 2012. AWKWARD. Because…she didn’t actually win? Technically? Even though she did? #WheresJordyn

10:48 am. Whittenburg is ready to go! Nails front full to double front! Amazing. Front lay to front double pike is also stuck. Wide arm press handstand is controlled, 2.5 to front full (tucked) looked good. Hit routine.

10:45 am. Sam got a 14.1 with a fall, and Likhovitskiy goes 14.233.

Kato up now. 3.5 to barani is awesome. Stumbles out of his second pass a little bit. Punch tuck full to front double full it looks like. TWISTING MACHINE. Triple full to finish has a little hop to the side.

10:42 am. Likhovitskiy of Belarus has a camera two inches away from his head. That’s gotta be such a distraction! Front double full with a stag as an afterthought. 1.5 to front full, looked a little tucked but a very open tuck. Shows excellent strength and gets more applause for his press handstand than for his tumbling.

10:40 am. Sam’s going up on floor now. Sits front full to double front, ugh. Hits air flares though! A little short on his side pass…and nails triple full. Again, too bad about the fall.

Torres Serrano went 13.066.

10:37 am. I’m really bad at live blogging the men (this is my first live MAG coverage omg) so I’ll just say what I know and try not to judge me, okay? Torres Serrano sat his arabian double pike as the first up on floor but everything else looks good. Shame about the fall.

10:35 am. The men will begin on floor with Alexis Torres Serrano up first, followed by Sam Mikulak, Andrey Likhovitskiy, Ryohei Kato, and Donnell Whittenburg in the first half of the rotation. Warmups are happening now and Sam’s just working those air flares…bent knees right now, so I hope he can get that together as he competes.

10:30 am. Introductions are going on now! There will be a little ceremony before the men begin.

  1. bikes and skinners overscored a little on some of the routines but in the end top 3 I think are correct… a lil disappointed for jlo but she did easily win the cup prize so that was good… crushing ending for Claudia….

  2. Biles overscored as usual on bb and ub she still would have won. But this is ridiculous. If it was worlds scoring she would have been around 60 but the judges are going to do this

  3. Has there ever been a 16 on floor?! That was unreal. And NBC didn’t say her score!

Lopez apparently had a fever when she arrived this week. They had the camera in her face when she came off the podium after floor — She looked pale and exhausted IMO. Too bad for her missing a medal here.

Enjoyed your blogging! Agreed about Claudia’s leo! Would love to see the Americans in something like that.

    • I don’t think theres ever been a 16 or even a d core 6.8 under new COP in WAG, at least under this quad for sure. Even by taking the worse scenario of overscored and saying she got a 15.8, its still by far the highest FX wag score under the new COP, definitely better execution than Alys 2012 EF routine….

Her vault is a bit overscored… best Amanar ever seen from her.. but would have scored it a tiny bit below maroney’s

skinners FX routine a bit overscored. would have given her same score as world 2014… her split is slightly improved…

    • I so agree with you about the leotard. Can USA please wear RED, WHITE, and BLUE at international competitions? Truthfully, I find it disrespectful that they do not do such when representing their country. I don’t put this on the girls but the leadership. And if nothing else, please give us something other then Pepto-Bismal pink. PLEASE.

    • Shawn Johnson got a 16.1 on Floor in the 2008 Olympic Trials, but so many of the scores were inflated in that event by many tenths. At the Olympics, Shawn never scored above a 15.5. But I’m pretty sure since the 2008 Olympic Trials, no one has scored a 16 or more except for Biles just yesterday.

      • That was under a different code, though. In 2008 the requirements for floor were different and with this code it’s a bit more difficult to score even in the low to mid 15s on floor, let alone 16!

      • In 2008 start values came from 10 skills. In this current era the gymnast only get to count 8. Shawn was great on floor and to get such a score was an incredible feat, which makes Simone’s more remarkable. I know there is talk of over scoring in this event. One thing to remember about a World Cup event. The judges are from the delegations that are present. Yes there are US judges on the panels but they are not alone or always in charge of the event. The FIG control these panels now that it is a World Cup event instead of it being a glorified international invitational

  4. In the past I have always thought that the American Cup always overscored the athletes. This year I think the scores were much more realistic which is good to finally see.

Simone Biles is blowing my mind. It’s the beginning of the season, she upgraded bars and floor and is getting in the 62’s. I am so curious to see what more she can do and see how much higher her final score can jump before 2016! Also, I know everyone says bars is her weak event, which it is compared to the other three but there is nothing weak about her bars routine! I don’t think there has ever been a gymnast that has made me enjoy this sport as much as Simone.

  5. I’m sorry but Shawn was getting scores in the 61 to 62. When the scoring was more based on the artistic side. I would still take a Shawn at her peak over Simone and jordyn. Even gabby. Shawms ub ; even her weakest, was very good. So to say she wasn’t in Simone league; you must be smoking something .

    • There has been an entirely different code in 2009 to the present day compared to 2006-2008. The code in that quad counted two extra skills on bars, beam, and floor, boosting overall AA difficulty by about 1.5-3 points from what you see now. You can’t compare scores between the two. A 62 AA in 2008 would be around 59-60.5 or so in today’s code. A 16 on floor in 2008 would be around a 15.0-15.4 or so using the current code. Saying Shawn had higher scores makes absolutely no sense because the start values were much higher due to counting ten elements instead of eight in each routine. The code differences in Shawn’s era had nothing to do with artistry. Her era’s code actually pushed higher difficulty because of the additional skills required.

  6. I’m not sure we’re you are getting you’re info but once again we got aknow it all. If it wasn’t based more heavily on artistry then Shawn would probably have won. Don’t tell be her skills weren’t up with Simone you must be out somewhere. Plus if it was 10 instead of 8 element then the judges can deduct more so that doesn’t make sense. keep talking but by next year bailie will be Simone
