Challenge Cup Continues in Osijek This Weekend

Ana Derek

The second challenge cup of the season is set to take place in Osijek, Croatia this weekend, where 2020 Olympians Tin Srbic and Teja Belak headline a talented field that includes many other standouts from the country and the region.

Many of the usual suspects from this year’s world cup circuit are back, but this will also be our first international look at a number of competitors this season, and in addition to many veterans, we’re also going to get a glimpse of several young up-and-coming talents, especially on the women’s side.

I’m also personally excited to see the Austrian debut of Carina Kröll, a challenge cup gold medalist and former German standout who swapped her nationality last year. The trio of Dutch newcomers will also be fun, and this meet will mark the FIG senior debut for Romania’s Ana Maria Barbosa, who competed in Jesolo a couple of months ago and will now hope to add some more experience going into Euros and worlds.

Qualifications begin in Osijek on June 9 and continue to June 10, with finals held over the weekend, including women’s vault and bars and men’s floor, pommels, and p-bars on June 11, and then women’s beam and floor and men’s vault, rings, and high bar on June 12. Live scores will be available here.
