2:59 pm. Saltness BB: She needs an 11.95 here to get her nationals score. Wild on her triple wolf turn but got it around so there’s that! Bhs loso to tuck full, damn!!! Her knees are all over the place but LOVE that she went for it, though she unfortunately fell. Good jump series after she gets back on, punch front, front aerial, double tuck to her back, UGH. That was a bummer.

2:56 pm. Frazier FX: Big double tuck into a lunge. Solid 2.5. 1.5 to front layout to split jump is GREAT. Double pike with a lunge.

Little BB: Good punch front and then jumps are also nice. Good bhs loso, just some little issues. Front aerial with a little check. Switch to switch half, way low on the latter and she basically sits it and then falls. 2.5 with a step forward.

2:55 pm. Konnor McClain with a 53.950!! She joins those who got their nationals scores. Still only five girls reached the 51, out of 22 who have finished which feels NUTS. But again…this is the first step. They still have the U.S. Classic.

2:52 pm. Neault UB: Toe full to Maloney to Pak, toe shoot is a little close, toe half to straddle Jaeger, a little close, double tuck with a tiny bounce in place.

Kratzer FX: Phantom of the Opera. Double tuck, good, solid 2.5 to front tuck! Solid stuck double pike. Finishes with a double full, she lost steam one nanosecond into that pass but still got it around with few issues. Good work!

Lincoln BB: Front aerial, side somi with a billion wobbles but fights and stays on. Double pike with a little hop. I def missed the beginning of that.

2:49 pm. Swaney BB: Candle mount, tucked her legs and wasn’t sure if it was a stylistic thing or a mistake. Hit her first acro + jump series and then a side aerial, full turn, GREAT bhs loso loso! Switch to switch half is a little low and shaky. Okay side split half and then a hit jump series after that. Just a layout dismount which seemed like a mistake…she did look a little off in her prep skills for that dismount.

McClain FX: Double pike, mostly controlled lunge out of it. Great 1.5 to front full. 2.5 to front tuck, lovely. Switch ring to switch half. Clean double full. Beautiful work! She had an incredible day!!! Missed nationals last year when she was SO close after sitting her beam dismount at the end of her last routine at the U.S. Classic but this year she’s like NOT THIS TIME SATAN.

2:48 pm. Gantner UB: Got a bit archy in one of her handstands and kinda lost her rhythm, came off. Pak looked nice, stalder to toe shoot, blind change to front giant half, double layout stuck cold. Really nice finish after that fall, she looks bummed but like, in an “ugh that sucked” not a “my life is over” kinda way.

2:45 pm. Chio UB: Piked Jaeger, a little close, bail to toe on to toe shoot, held the handstand before her blind full for an hour, clean stuck double layout.

Hahn BB: A little wonky on her wolf turn. Solid bhs loso, just some bent knees. Switch leap, pause, split leap to split jump. Side aerial, wobble, side straight jump full, a little too far back and she falls. Side split half. Hit the dismount.

Birt FX: Front layout front double full, NICE. Double tuck, ugh, bounces out of it and kind of splats on her stomach. This routine is super cool though. Love the music and choreo. Switch ring to switch half, both nice. Basically stuck the double pike.

Still only those four (Soma, Jung-Ruivivar, Morris, and Alipio) with nationals scores. Everyone else will get a second chance at the U.S. Classic.

2:42 pm. Siegfeldt BB: Kind of a floaty layout series but falls. Wobble on side aerial. Hit the dismount.

Drayton UB: Clean Pak! Toe shoot, blind full, full-out with a step back.

Butler FX: Piked full-in with a hop back. 2.5 UGH PUNCHES TO HER HEAD AND STILL IS ABLE TO GET HER LAYOUT OUT OF IT, I MEAN SHE SAT IT BUT HOW WAS THAT POSSIBLE I’M SHRIEKING?!!?!?!?! She’s fully fine and didn’t even PAUSE LOL. 1.5 to stag. Good double pike

Some AA scores are in…Ui Soma 52.500, Levi Jung-Ruivivar 52.000, Sydney Morris 51.900, Ciena Alipio 51.300…these are the only ones with their nationals scores so far.

2:39 pm. Alipio BB: Front aerial to jump series, little bobble. Sadly off on an acro series…too bad, she was doing great so far. Hit bhs loso and a nice switch half. Double ufll with a hop back.

Rosen FX: Went for a double layout to start! She’s pretty tucked in her hips though. Double tuck is better. Low double pike, steps out of it.

Soma VT: Clean FTY, hop back.

Fatta UB: Piked Jaeger is good. That’s all I saw before the full-twisting double layout dismount, finally a smile from her, she was in tears after floor and vault. Floor, I get. She had a brilliant routine going until her last pass. I’d cry too. Good finish for her.

Scanlon VT: FTY with a lunge back.

2:38 pm. Jung-Ruivivar VT: Clean FTY, just a little off-center with a little hop forward.

Marcheli UB: Clear hip to Maloney was nice. Straddle Jaeger. Double tuck with a step back.

2:34 pm. Dean VT: FTY basically stuck! The feed quality is really bad right now so hopefully it improves, I can’t really see anything.

Harris UB: All I saw was the dismount at the end, a stuck double layout. She had a FANTASTIC day.

Gallentine BB: Only saw the double full dismount with the step.

Morris FX: I missed the beginning. Basically stuck the double pike.

2:29 pm. Rotation 3 Standings

1. Konnor McClain 40.900
2. Sydney Morris 39.600
3. Ciena Alipio 39.200
4. Lauren Little 39.150
— Levi Jung-Ruivivar 39.150
6. Lyden Saltness 39.050
7. Ui Soma 39.000
8. Alonna Kratzer 38.900

2:27 pm. McClain BB: Bhs bhs layout, knew it was her from the layout because she’s the only one in the U.S. who does them correctly. Standing full, amazing!! Good jumps. Lovely extension on her side aerial. Switch to switch half, a little shy and a little bobble. Back tuck is good, just a tad tentative on the landing. Front aerial, little check, split ring jump, great shape from this angle. Solid double pike!!! Baby step. All that with cotton jammed into her nose. SHE’S A GODDESS.

2:25 pm. Lincoln UB: Straddle Jaeger, REALLY far, didn’t see her fingers touch at all. Stalder to Pak, great handstand before her stalder half, arches a little on a handstand before her stalder full, which is a little late, then a toe on to toe shoot, some little iffy moments on the low bar but she corrected very well on all of them. Double pike, a little low with a step.

2:23 pm. Swaney UB: I missed a chunk of this but saw that she caught everything…good double layout with a bounce to finish!

Birt BB: Wolf turn full, punch front tuck, little bobble, bhs loso is solid, decent side split jump half, front aerial, side aerial, switch ring, kinda landed on one foot, but good cover to hold onto it. Double full with a little hop.

2:21 pm. Lewis FX: Double arabian, basically landed it on one foot, that looked like it hurt…kinda takes a second to get up, and starts to continue into her choreo, but then stops it. Yeah, good idea…that really looked painful form the start, I’m surprised she tried to keep going tbh! #Tough Limps off with the help of her coach.

2:17 pm. Soma FX: High double wolf turn. Little hop on the piked full-in. Some great low choreo from her and her feet are like WE. ARE. POINTED.

Butler BB: Hit her jump series at the start. OH YAAAAS went for the layout full as part of a triple series!!! It’s a bit tucked/piked/has form issues but SHE WENT FOR IT. Leaps into a back pike, landed it basically on her butt and fell. UGHHHHH. Off again on her Onodi. 😦 Sheep jump. Front aerial to split ring jump. Full turn. GREAT double pike, but ugh, I’m so sad about those falls. This was such an ambitious set.

Hahn UB: Lovely from everything I saw at the start. Tkachev BARELY gets over though. Then double pike basically to her knees.

2:14 pm. Jung-Ruivivar FX: Obsessed with this kid and this routine. Great first pass, something I didn’t see into a solid front full. Memmel turn, switch ring is GOOOOORGEOUS HOLY CRAP to ring leap. That choreo is my life. Double tuck with a step. Clean stuck double full.

Rosen BB: Hit bhs loso with a little bounce. Full turn. Aerial, has the fight of her life, she’s literally basically pirouetting trying not to fall…but ultimately has to come off.

Siegfeldt UB: Fell on something but I missed what. Low double pike dismount to finish.

2:11 pm. Chio VT: Oh no, Yurchenko but then like…flat backs it. Really quick thinking though. She got literally no block. Better for her to just lay it down than try to flip and get injured.

Goodman FX: Triple full with a hop. Beauty and the Beast music. Double pike is a little low with a hop. Rudi.

Morris BB: Bhs loso loso is solid. Good side aerial. Back pike. Hit the dismount. Another great routine from her!

Alipio UB: Inbar to toe full to Maloney to Pak, van Leeuwen, toe half to piked jaeger, looked a little far but no problem catching. Stalder half, full-in REALLY close to the bar but gets it around, step back.

2:10 pm. Gallentine UB: Toe full to Maloney to Pak, Van Leeuwen, straddle Jaeger, full-twisting double layout! Just a step there. GET IT! That was really nice.

2:07 pm. Saltness UB: Piked Jaeger, straight and clean Pak, toe on to clear hip to Ray, blind full to double pike with a baby hop.

Harris VT: EXCELLENT Yurchenko 1.5!!! Great landing, practically stuck with her feet apart. NCAA, YOU ON THE STREAM?

Frazier BB: Good control on her double wolf turn! Front aerial to jump series. Little wobble on the switch half. Solid bhs loso and side split jump half. Switch ring, flexed back foot, same on the ring jump into a back tuck, but great series there. Hit the dismount.

Dean FX: 2.5 came in a little low but she still hit a little crunched layout out of it. 1.5 to front full was good. I missed the pass after that. Solid double pike.

Marcheli VT: Hit

Fatta VT: ALSO HIT, vault is going too fast for me to see what they’re doing.

2:05 pm. Gantner VT: They only showed the landing but THAT looked good at least!

Little UB: Saw it from the bail to toe shoot, held a handstand for a sec before the stalder half, big clean double layout with a step.

Kratzer BB: Saw her hit the flight series. One of the better double pike dismounts!

Scanlon FX: Solid 1.5 through to double tuck. 1.5 through to 2.5, one of those 1.5s may have been a front full I’m assuming but I missed the entry to both and was low key guessing, and the 2.5 a little underrotated so she has to step it around. Double full to finish.

Neault VT: Clean FTY, step back.

1:59 pm.  Rotation 2 Standings

1. Konnor McClain 27.400
2. Alona Kratzer 26.950
— Kaliya Lincoln 26.950
4. Levi Jung-Ruivivar 26.750
5. Sydney Morris 26.600
6. Lauren Little 26.400
— Sophia Butler 26.400
8. Ciena Alipio 26.250

1:54 pm. Fatta FX:  Triple full! Bounce back but nicely rotated. 2.5 through to double full!!!! Awesome, she can twist. Switch to switch half. Front full. Crashed the double pike to finish. 😦

1:51 pm. Butler UB: Piked Jaeger, Pak, both good, toe shoot, great double layout to finish.

Marcheli FX: Good double pike. Hit the rest well.

Soma BB: Switch to switch half, a little low on the latter. Side aerial. Little check on her flight series, front aerial to split leap is good…I think she wanted a ring jump but the back leg wasn’t quite there if that’s what she was going for. Good double pike with a lunge back.

1:47 pm. Harris FX: Memmel to illusion YES!!!! She is literally super Dutch with her dance elements. Tucked full-in, a little low, step forward. 2.5 to front tuck is good. Switch ring to tour jeté half. Double pike, a little buckled and forward, step. Hit the last pass.

Jung-Ruivivar BB: Omg I missed the beginning of this. Caught it from her lovely Korbut. Side aerial, switch leap to sissone, literally breath taking. Side split half, gorgeous. Bhs loso, beautiful full spin, huge amplitude and extension on the switch half. She is elegance personified. Double pike, chest a tad low, step forward. GORGEOUUUUS I can’t get over her lines and presence.

Rosen UB: Straddle Jaeger, missed her hands and fell.

1:45 pm. Neault FX: Good double pike and double tuck to start. Jungle Book music. Lovely 1.5 to stuck front full. Clean double full.

Hahn VT: Another good FTY, little hop back.

Morris UB: Caught her piked Jaeger, Pak was a little close but got it, stalder to toe shoot, big smile at the end.

Goodman BB: Solid bhs loso. Switch to switch half, maybe gets just past 90 on the latter. Punch front was a little low, front aerial, jumps, side aerial, double full stuck with her chest a bit forward. Mostly great stuff! Just some little things.

1:43 pm. Frazier UB: Toe full to Maloney to Tkachev, kinda low and she bends her knees, clear hip to Pak, a little arched, toe shoot is caught a bit close, blind change to front giant half, and she finishes with a good double layout! Little hop back.

Siegfeldt VT: Good FTY, step back.

1:41 pm. Kratzer UB: Clear hip half to piked Jaeger, good! Church to Pak, some flexed feet, but solid. Van Leeuwen, toe on, high full-out stuck! FAB!

Gallentine VT: FTY, little bounce.

Gantner FX: Hit the double pike to start, then a double tuck, clean and basically stuck. Hit the middle pass and a stuck 1.5 to finish. Very tidy work!

Dean BB: Good flight series. Switch to switch half, GREAT amplitude, to back tuck, little wobble. Good stretch on the side split half. 2.5 with a step.

Alipio VT: Clean FTY with a large step back.

1:38 pm. Little VT: DTY! Not bad!

McClain UB: Poor kid had a bloody nose in warmups so she has a little cotton tube shoved up her nose right now. Nice Pak, stalder, Maloney, full-out with a step back. good work.

Chio FX: Hit what I saw. Nearly stuck the double full at the end.

Scanlon BB: Front aerial to jump series is great.

I think Lillian Lewis was the one who went up on beam in the last update.

1:35 pm. Swaney VT: FTY, hit, just a little low.

Drayton FX: Sat her double tuck.

Birt UB: Toe full, double layout is super straight, little bounce on the landing.

I didn’t see who was on beam (I think they went out of rotation order lol) but it looked like a hit routine.

1:29 pm. Rotation 1 Standings

1. Levi Jung-Ruivivar 13.650
2. Kaliya Lincoln 13.600
3. Konnor McClain 13.550
4. Sophia Butler 13.400
5. Katelyn Rosen 13.300
6. Ui Soma 13.250
7. Alonna Kratzer 13.200
8. Love Birt 13.050

1:26 pm. Alipio FX: Split jump full, double pike, chest down with a little hop. Double L spin to full spin, tour jeté full is nice. 1.5 to stuck front full! GET IT. Kind of falls out of her double wolf turn but in a “dance way” like everyone does. Switch ring to switch half, and then a nice 2.5 with a step to finish. Really solid effort!

1:22 pm. Gallentine FX: Tucked full-in, looked stuck at first, takes a baby step to steady it. Wobbles and rolls out of her wolf turn but kinda turns it to choreo. Double pike a little low, step back. Hit her third pass. Then a 2.5 with a step to finish.

Harris BB: BB: Bhs loso bhs, switch leap to split leap to full Y turn, GET IT BABY SANNE WEVERS!!! Sid aerial, wobble, side somi, side straddle half, double tuck rotates a little slow and she ALMOST gets it, but bounces forward a little and puts her hands down. 😦

1:18 pm. Neault BB: A little wild on her wolf turn but doesn’t put her hands down. Bhs loso loso is crooked and she falls. Punch front into her jump series is great. Front aerial to a split ring jump, the back leg isn’t great and her foot is a bit flexed. Switch ring, back leg/foot is better this time. Double tuck dismount, chest a little low.

Saltness FX: Hit her first pass, then her double pike with a bounce back. 1.5 to front tuck. Double tuck with a bounce back to finish.

1:16 pm. Jung-Ruivivar UB: Inbar to toe half to piked Jaeger, Pak is lovely, beautiful stalder to toe shoot, full-in, nearly stuck, takes a step to steady it.

Gantner BB: Wobbled and fell backwards on her side split half. Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump. Goes for a double tuck and doesn’t have a ton of power, ends up crashing it.

Little FX: Solid double arabian to start, and then a good tucked full-in, just some split legs in that tuck. Hit her third pass. Good amplitude and extension in her jumps. Wolf turn is a little wobbly. 2.5, almost looks like it’s gonna be short but ends up looking great. Fab routine with some solid difficulty!

1:12 pm. Lincoln FX: Beautiful double arabian!! Just a tiny step but that was lovely in the air. Tucked full-in is also good. She kind of skip-dances off the floor when she leaves.

Chio BB: Caught it from the side split half, little break at the hips. Side aerial, full spin, split leap to switch leap to Korbut, great. Double full dismount with a little hop.

Goodman UB: Piked jaeger, bent elbows on the catch, Pak, blind full to stuck double tuck, big big smiles!

1:09 pm. Frazier VT: Omg I legit thought this was Marz for a sec, they look so much alike!!! Powerful FTY with a step back, some form stuff in the air.

Scanlon UB:Clean handstand to start before her toe full, Tkachev, short handstand before her toe on to bail to toe shoot, caught a little close. Double pike with a little step.

Swaney FX: Double tuck, stuck! Feet apart. Legs get a little messy on her middle pass (a twist, I didn’t see what), but a good double pike to finish with her chest down.

Drayton BB: Hit her flight series and a solid punch front. Full turn, and the rest was hit. Sorry, it’s four screens at once and I’m trying to get a little bit from everyone!

Morris VT: A good FTY from her.

Dean UB: Good piked Jaeger! Then a Ray. Toe full to Pak, good, toe shoot, clear hip, double pike dismount with a step forward and her chest slightly down.

1:06 pm. Birt VT: Good FTY, not a huge vault but she did a good job to get it around well.

Fatta BB: Switch to split leap to back tuck, solid. Front aerial, Bhs loso is good. Hit the rest.

Lewis UB: Hit routine, good double pike to finish.

Hahn FX: Piked full-in was a little low to start, and her double pike was low also but she got both of them around.

Kratzer VT: FTY, the stream kind of lagged but nothing super wrong that I could see! Just a bounce back.

1:04 pm. Siegfeldt FX: Nice tucked full-in to start. Solid double pike with a little bounce. Clean double full.

Soma UB: Everything I saw was hit.

Marcheli BB: Good bhs loso, a little wobble on the side aerial, good side split half, and a lovely double full.

Butler VT: Solid FTY, just some little leg form stuff to clean up.

1:01 pm. Reminder that this is one of two qualifiers for nationals, with the second being the U.S. Classic in Columbus, Ohio at the end of the month. Juniors need a 51 AA to make it.

1:00 pm. The gymnasts just marched in, the national anthem is done, and the touch warm-up is underway! We’ll be back in about three minutes with the start of competition.

The top juniors will compete in the senior session tonight, but this session still has a ton of standouts, like Levi Jung-Ruivivar of Paramount Elite (her teammate won the Hopes 10-11 session yesterday), Kaliya Lincoln of Airborne, Konnor McClain of Revolution, Ui Soma of San Mateo, eMjae “I accidentally did a Kovacs” Frazier of Parkettes, Lauren Little of Everest…and SO MANY MORE!! Many of these girls are first-year juniors after competing as Hopes in previous seasons so it’s exciting to see some fresh faces in the elite mix.

    • No – they only qualify to the HOPES championships which are held alongside the US Classic (along with all the other HOPES gymnasts who scored 46.00AA/48.00AA yesterday).

To qualify as a junior elite they would have had to qualify junior elite compulsory and optional at an elite qualifier, as opposed to HOPES compulsory and optional.

  1. Loved Selena Harris’ beam! Her side somi looked like a front kickover thing that turned at the last second. And an American doing a Y turn is always a treat!

  2. I’m pretty sure Sydney Morris finished with a toe-full to full-in but there’s is literally sooo much going on I don’t know how you’re getting any of it!

  3. Only 5 girls qualified out of this session. So USAG seems to have a problem here now, too. That hasn’t been the case in the last years.

    • The last American Classic meets have been monstrously overscored, though. When they hold them at the ranch they always are a bit more generous…I saw a beam routine 2-3 years ago get a 15+ when it should’ve been like, max 13.5 lol. They were pretty tight here and that definitely had something to do with it, in addition to lots of falls.

    • Even last year, 15 qualified with some insane scores and there are still 8 more juniors left for tonight so they’ll get pretty close to that even without the crazy scoring of years past.

  4. Poor Kaliya. Best floor score, third on beam, good vault, but she really imploded on bars and got the lowest score. All she needed was a 12 and she would have qualified.

    Like

    • She didn’t even really implode…she just missed her Jaeger and because her fingers didn’t grasp the bar, she lost the difficulty value for the skill. :-/

      • Fair enough, that was a bit a dramatic. But still, even with form breaks 12 is doable for her. It’s a shame because I thought she was going to be Konnor’s main competition at this meet.
