2014 World bars bronze medalist Daria Spiridonova of Russia earned the gold medal at the 31st Arthur Gander Memorial competition held October 29 in Chiasso, Switzerland, defeating defending champion and 2014 World silver medalist Larisa Iordache of Romania by just two tenths.

Elisabeth Seitz of Germany, who returned to competition earlier this month after battling several injuries, placed third.

The meet, held in honor of former FIG president Arthur Gander, has been a fixture in international competition since 1984. Unlike a traditional all-around meet, the competition has an elimination round where after two events, the top six gymnasts move on to the final round.

In the finale performance, the gymnasts can choose to repeat an event they competed earlier; champion Spiridonova repeated bars, hitting a lovely set both times, while Iordache repeated vault. The first two event scores are added to the finale score for the overall total score.

After the meet, most of the gymnasts will travel to Zurich where they compete in the mixed pairs event at the Swiss Cup, held this weekend.
