USA Gymnastics released the field set to compete at this summer’s Secret U.S. Classic, the final qualifier to national championships, held at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., on July 25.
Expected to compete are 2012 Olympic gold medalists Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman, both of whom returned to competition at the City of Jesolo Trophy in March, in addition to their Olympic teammate and world medalist Kyla Ross, back-to-back world champion Simone Biles, and 2014 World Championship gold medalists Alyssa Baumann, Madison Kocian, Ashton Locklear, and MyKayla Skinner.
The senior field includes a total of 20 gymnasts. U.S. national team members Madison Desch, Rachel Gowey, Amelia Hundley, Emily Schild, and Megan Skaggs are exempt from the meet due to their participation at the Pan American Games, which begin this weekend in Toronto. These five are automatically qualified to national championships in August.

So no Pan Ams competitors…I guess that makes since, but the alternates aren’t competing at Classics either? Is it just a pacing thing? The were prepared this week, so now they’ll just wait for P&G’s?

Aren’t last year’s worlds competitors technically already qualified to nationals?

Yes, not everyone attending Classics needs to qualify. Most have already qualified directly from Worlds or with scores earned at Jesolo or verification.

I am super excited to finally see all of the seniors competing again!! It will be an exciting competition. I know there is always score inflation at any domestic meets, but just wondering how many 60+ we will see. Also excited to see all the upgrades and it looks like there will be severals.
I think in many ways, despite the score inflation, classics and p&g are in many ways more exciting and at a higher level than worlds and other international meet currently.

I know… she was so promising ;(. I am actually concerned not just for her gymnastics right now but also actually everything outside of gym in general. It appears that her acting career hasn’t gone where she’ve liked and also the fact that she’s not eligble for NCAA as well as not really planning on college at this point.. I feel like she’s really lost :(…. Hope she can find her way back somewhere, anywhere….
