Five months into the year, we’re excited to take another look at the top scores so far in 2018, especially because May was SUPER busy. Most gymnasts who were ranked near the top last month have held onto their rankings, but a few new names have crept up into the limelight, especially after the Chinese Championships showed us a great look at what Team China is up to, especially on beam.
So far, we’ve seen 2,917 all-around performances, as well as 3,927 vault scores, 4,037 bars scores, 4,125 beam scores, and 4,041 floor scores, in addition to an even 1,000 two-vault attempts that get averaged for an event final (or qualification into a final).
Below, find a list of the top all-around and event scores thus far, as well as the top D scores for each event. An asterisk (*) next to the name denotes a junior competitor, and I’ve removed bonus from all domestic meets to keep things consistent. As a note, we only include juniors in the two-vault averages or D-score combos if they’re competing vaults from two different families, and if a competition uses bonuses but their score sheets don’t differentiate those bonuses from the totals, we don’t include those scores in our database.
For full lists of all scores this year, and to follow along between our monthly best score posts, check out our top scores spreadsheet. We update this religiously, after every single meet, so feel free to play around over there, sort the columns, whatever you feel like doing.
As a reminder, this is just a fun way to track the top range of scores in the all-around and on each event. Obviously every meet is scored at a different standard and it’s impossible to compare from meet to meet, but calm down — it’s nothing serious. We’re not predicting the next Olympic champion or electing the next leader of the free world. It’s just easier this way to see a range of scores that could be the goal gymnasts will be trying to reach at bigger international competitions.

If the top 3 on each apparatus ended being the podium finishers at Doha i would be pretty happy about it.

One reason alone that won’t happen: Simone. But that’s assuming all works out… that USAG isn’t decertified by then & is able to send a team, & that Simone is healthy!

All of this seems pretty wide open and beatable at worlds! (except when Simone comes back and kills all of them)
I would love to see Jade Carey sneak into VT/FX finals and possibly AA.
Also, do we know anything about the status of Larisa Iordache?

I’d like to know about Larisa too! I feel like we haven’t gotten many updates. Also, I could be wrong, but I don’t think Jade trains bars, or at least not to the elite code. If she is doing it I’d assume she’s preparing for a NCAA bars routine. Of course, I could be dead wrong.

Annnndddd Simone Biles is coming in to crash the party soon!!!
Lauren, any word on if Jade Carey is pushing for Worlds this year? Her social media seems to point to her starting OSU this fall, but maybe she plans to start late? Or maybe push for Worlds even while at school? Which that (being in school & still trying for Worlds) seems more plausible than in the past when Martha surely wouldn’t have allowed that…

On this list the one person I want to see on the podium is Georgia Mae Fenton, I don’t know why but i find her bar work to be stunning.

Is there video of Kara Eaker’s 15.1 on beam? I can’t find it anywhere.

Chalk Warrior on YouTube might have it but I’m not sure!

(She has a 6.7 D so she got an 8.4 E which seems fairly realistic for domestic scoring…her routine is insane!)
