1:45 pm. Courtney Tulloch GBR SR: Roll through to maltese, front giant to handstand takes a second to get there but eventually looks great, through to planche then out to iron cross. Back giant to handstand has a significant arch at first. Triple back with a step back. 14.333 (5.8, 8.533)

1:40 pm. Adem Asil TUR SR: Planche down to hang pulled up to maltese. Rolls through to iron cross. Good back giant to handstand then swing through to maltese. Swing to planche, back giant to handstand, double double layout with two big steps back, those steps could get him but overall this was soooooo good! 14.400 (5.7, 8.700) – he ties Petrounias exactly for first!

1:37 pm. Harry Hepworth GBR SR: Front giant to inverted cross doesn’t quite get there at first but pulls through, iron cross to maltese I believe happened after that, front pike saltos to handstand, falls slightly out of it but then pushes back through, maltese to iron cross, back giant to handstand, and goes for a triple back dismount, good! I think a couple of positions are going to be too noticeable here coming after guys who were so precise but strong work overall. 14.333 (5.8, 8.533)

1:34 pm. Samir Aït Saïd FRA SR: Pulls up to planche, drops down to inverted planche, then pulls up to maltese, lovely. Back giant to handstand, front swing to maltese, also great. Out to iron cross, swing through to planche, arches over and swings very slightly on the last handstand but gets through and hits the dismount! 14.066 (5.3, 8.766)

1:29 pm. Vahagn Davtyan GRE SR: Pulls up from a hang to planche, down to iron cross, so clean, out to maltese, fab. Front giant to handstand, arches but gets it under control. Swing to maltese. Front swing to planche, back giant to handstand is a little shaky, double double dismount, stuck cold! 14.166 (5.4, 8.666, +0.1 B)

1:26 pm. Eleftherios Petrounias GRE SR: Hang to planche, drops down then pulls up to maltese. Maltese again, back giant to a strong handstand, front swing to planche down to iron cross. Last handstand is great before the full-twisting double layout dismount, step back. 14.400 (5.7, 8.700)

1:22 pm. Nikita Simonov AZE SR: Pulls up to inverted cross then swings through to maltese, rolls through to maltese, great. Back giant to handstand is a bit arched. Iron cross looked strong. Inverted pike to front giant to handstand goes super smoothly. Full-twisting double layout, stuck! Okay, fab. 14.333 (5.5, 8.733, +0.1 B)

1:16 pm. Artur Avetisyan ARM SR: Maltese with a push down and back up, so good, out to iron cross. Front giant to handstand, swings through to maltese, through to planche, nearly the double double dismount! Fabulous routine. 14.366 (5.4, 8.966)

12:51 pm. Ana Barbosu ROU UB: Clear hip piked Tkachev caught in mixed grip to Ezhova, noticeable form in the latter, Maloney to clear hip full, finishes in horizontal, takes a swing before the Pak, van Leeuwen with some crossed ankles, full-in with a small hop. Solid hit for her! 13.766 (5.9, 7.866) – moves her to second!

12:48 pm. Nina Derwael BEL UB: Stalder Tkachev caught in mixed grip to Ezhova to Chow to Pak to Maloney to Bhardwaj, great! Van Leeuwen, a little shy in the handstand before the toe full, which was a bit rushed, into the full-in dismount, small step. 14.466 (6.3, 8.166)

12:46 pm. Maisa Kuusikko FIN UB: Shaposh to Tkachev to Pak to Maloney to clear hip half to Ezhova, GIRL OKAY! Some minor form throughout but she’s so cool. Toe full, van Leeuwen with some ankle separation, double layout with a hop. What a legend. 13.600 (6.1, 7.500)

12:39 pm. Manila Esposito ITA UB: Nabieva goes too high and close, tucks her legs to try to make it around but can’t hang on, hard fall. Jumps back on for the Maloney to Bhardwaj, good van Leeuwen, blind full, blind change to front giant to double front, cowboyed with a small hop. 12.233 (5.4, 6.833)

12:37 pm. Sofia Tonelli ITA UB: Toe full to Chow to Tkachev, good! Handstand before the Ray to Pak was great, series was also strong, flexed feet in the Pak, Maloney to bail to Ray back to the high bar, going so well so far! blind change to front giant to double front, clean but a really deep landing, big hop up. 13.300 (5.9, 7.400)

12:34 pm. Zoja Szekely HUN UB: Inbar full to Maloney to Pak, nice! Chow to Gienger, minor leg separation as she catches. Blind change to big piked Jaeger, a little short in some handstands, toe full a little rushed to full-in, no, almost down to her knees and jumps off the mat, noooo! She was so close. 13.200 (6.0, 7.200)

12:31 pm. Vanesa Masova CZE UB: Lovely handstand before the stalder to stalder full, some medium leg separation getting to handstand there, to Chow half, stalder half to Jaeger, lovely there. 7. Kristijonas Padegimas, Lithuania, 14.100
8. Robert Kirmes, Finland, 13.433

12:11 pm. Gregor Rakovic SLO PH: Scissor to handstand, good, Russians on the single handle, smooth work so far! Circles on the single handle, down to the horse to travel in Russians, travels in circles after, and muscles into the dismount but gets it around. Solid routine overall. 14.233 (5.5, 8.733)

12:09 pm. Kristijonas Padegimas LTU PH: Single pommel work is great, lovely Sohn, he looks so tall, minor hip form, Russians between the handles go well, travels in Russians, Russians at the end as well, right into the dismount. Beautiful work. 14.100 (5.2, 8.900)

12:06 pm. Hamlet Manukyan ARM PH: Scissors to circles on the single pommel, some Russians in there as well, Sohn, Russians between the handles, amazing and so quick, beautiful hip extension on the circles avter, travels so well, he’s SO fast, PERFECTION into the dismount, so smooth. Oh my god. 14.766 (5.6, 9.166)

12:03 pm. Mamikon Khachatryan ARM PH: I wasn’t typing for this but this was GORGEOUS. Literally textbook perfection from start to finish. 14.733 (5.7, 9.033)

11:58 am. Matvei Petrov ALB PH: I missed the very beginning but his circle work is nice, into the Busnari with some minor form but goes down well into the flair work, pretty clean throughout, legs come apart right into the dismount but he fixes things and gets through! 14.366 (5.6, 8.766) – moves to second!

11:55 am. Yumin Abbadini ITA PH: Beginning goes well but it’s the flairs for me!!! Incredible height over the horse. Like, he’s a foot above it. Or more. It’s WILD. Gorgeous movement throughout, little hesitation into the dismount but he corrects quickly and makes it around. 14.166 (5.5, 8.666)

11:51 am. Robert Kirmes FIN PH: Scissors into circles, good work on the single handle, one-arm swing included, but after that he ends up with a bunch of wild leg separations that cause him to lose his rhythm, SOMEHOW saves it and moves off of the handle and into the rest of his routine, amazing fight! It’s honestly just kind of incredible that he’s in this final?! Obsessed. 13.433 (5.4, 8.033)

11:47 am. Gabriele Targhetta ITA PH: Good scissors at the start. Opening circles are just lovely and smooth, moves well throughout, has a slight leg separation at the end of the horse but gets over it quickly, one-arm circle was lovely, everything is so nicely extended. Little iffy leg form going into the handstand for the dismount but a stunning set overall. 14.400 (5.9, 8.500)

11:42 am. Men are being introduced for pommel horse!

We’ll see Gabriele Targhetta, Robert Kirmes, Yumin Abbadini, Matvei Petrov, Mamikon Khachatryan, Hamlet Manukyan, Kristijonas Padegimas, and Gregor Rakovic.

11:31 am. WAG VAULT FINAL STANDINGS

1. Karina Schönmaier, Germany, 13.983

3. Lisa Vaelen, Belgium, 13.666
4. Teja Belak, Slovenia, 13.533
5. Elisabeth Geurts, Netherlands, 13.233
6. Laia Font, Spain, 13.233
7. Ming van Eijken, France, 13.033
8. Greta Mayer, Hungary, 12.649

11:26 am. Valentina Georgieva BUL VT: Excellent Yurchenko double full! So much power, very clean, and the tiniest hop back on the landing. Fabulous. 14.100 (5.0, 9.100)

Second vault is a massive Tsuk 1.5, an upgrade from the Tsuk full in quals! Big lunge forward. 13.700 (4.8, 8.900)

13.900 average, second place!

11:22 am. Greta Mayer HUN VT: Fabulous Tsuk full! SO clean in the air and takes about a one-inch step on the landing, this was gorgeous. 13.333 (4.4, 8.933)

NOOOOOOO, then she sits the Yurchenko 1.5 on her second run. Well that was a bummer, she looks devastated. Again mostly clean in the air off the table but she just doesn’t have the height she needs, loses her leg form significantly as she fights to get the last half twist around, but not enough to stand it up. 11.966 (4.6, 7.666, -0.3 ND)

12.649 average.

11:18 am. Elisabeth Geurts NED VT: Yurchenko double full, really floaty! Actually twisted a little slow I thought and I worried for a second, but she has enough height to get it fully rotated, just ends up a bit short on the landing and has her chest down along with a step. 13.566 (5.0, 8.566)

Second vault is a handspring front layout half, a little loose in the air with her legs and hips, massive bounce back. 12.500 (4.0, 8.500) – this also downgraded to a pike

13.233 average (+0.2 B).

11:12 am. Teja Belak SLO VT: Handspring front layout full, pikes it a bit but it’s not THAT bad tbh. Mostly just when she comes off the table. Her knees do bend a little as well before the landing, but the landing is solid. 13.033 (4.4, 8.633) – rough, they gave her credit for the pike, but they did in quals as well

LOVELY Yurchenko 1.5 for the second vault! Really powerful, mostly great in the air, excellent landing, just the tiniest little steps into the salute. 13.633 (4.6, 9.033)

13.533 average (+0.2 B), moves her to third!

11:05 am. Lisa Vaelen BEL VT: Big handspring rudi, fully piked coming off the table, opens up eventually but then her legs are all over the place in the air, still gets it around and lands it with a step back. 13.933 (5.4, 8.533)

Huge Tsuk full for her second vault! This one is much nicer overall. Still minor form in her hips especially, and a bounce on the landing but showed so much power there! 13.000 (4.4, 8.600)

13.666 average (+0.2 B), moves her into second place!

11:00 am. Laia Font ESP VT: Yurchenko double full, not a ton of power, some crossed legs in the air, but she twists quickly to get the rotation around, lands with her chest down and a little stumble on the landing. 13.466 (5.0, 8.466)

Second vault is a Tsuk full, pikes it down a bit but gets the landing with a step and a wobble. 13.000 (4.4, 8.600)

13.233 average.

10:53 am. Karina Schönmaier GER VT: Yurchenko double full, REALLY great in the air, just a hop back/side kinda. She’s fantastic at this vault tbh. 14.066 (5.0, 9.066)

Second vault is a Yurchenko half-on front layout half, big bounce back on the landing. Also really not as tidy in the air in her hip form especially but overall it’s good. 13.500 (4.8, 8.800, -0.1 ND)

13.983 average (+0.2 B).

10:49 am. Ming van Eijken FRA VT: Handspring rudi, lots of power but has its form moments in the air with both legs and hips, and then she lands a bit short and forward, chest is all the way at her knees and she ends up putting her hands down. 12.966 (5.4, 7.666, -0.1 ND)

Second vault is a Tsuk full with a hop back. 13.100 (4.4, 8.700)

13.033 average.

10:44 am. Athletes are being introduced for the WAG vault final!

We’ll see Ming van Eijken, Karina Schönmaier, Laia Font, Lisa Vaelen, Teja Belak, Elisabeth Geurts, Greta Mayer, and Valentina Georgieva.

10:31 am. MAG FLOOR FINAL STANDINGS

1. Luke Whitehouse, Great Britain, 14.500
2. Harry Hepworth, Great Britain, 14.366
3. Lorenzo Casali, Italy, 13.966
4. Nazar Chepurnyi, Ukraine, 13.166
5. Kevin Penev, Bulgaria, 12.866
6. Luca Murabito, Switzerland, 12.866
7. Artem Dolgopyat, Israel, 12.633
8. Luca Giubellini, Switzerland, 11.600

10:28 am. Luca Murabito SUI FX: Double-twisting double layout, great start! Front double full to double front, SITS IT. ANOTHER ONE. I hate this. Hit the side pass and the 2.5 to front layout, hop. Double double to finish with a hop to the side. 12.866 (5.5, 7.366)

10:24 am. Luca Giubellini SUI FX: Front full to double front, stumbles it back and sits it. UGH. These front combos today are killing everyone! Double layout was great. Hits the double full down the side. Also sits the piked double front. Piked double back to finish. 11.600 (5.1, 6.500)

10:21 am. Kevin Penev BUL FX: Double-twisting double layout, really good start! Small hop. Front full to piked double front, NOOOOO, sits it! Believe he did a triple full down the side, landing was good. 2.5 to front layout, little bounce. Double double to finish was good, tiny step to the side. 12.866 (5.4, 7.466)

10:17 am. Harry Hepworth GBR FX: Super solid triple double. Double-twisting double-layout also great. 3.5 down the side with a hop forward. Front double full to double front, WOW, the landing on that was STUNNING! Triple full down the side, slight bounce back. Double double with a bit of a stumble to finish. 14.366 (6.1, 8.266)

10:15 am. Touch for the second half now!

10:11 am. Artem Dolgopyat ISR FX: Double-twisting double layout with a small hop. Front full to piked double front, sits it! Omg. Double double down the side with a hop forward. 2.5 to double front, a little deep with a hop forward. Wobbles in his scale, oopsie daisy. Arabian double front half-out, basically stuck, moves his heel into the salute. 12.633 (5.7, 7.133, -0.3 ND, +0.1 B)

10:08 am. Lorenzo Casali ITA FX: Opens with a scale, it’s fine! I can’t get into them and barely pay attention because I’m like I can do that in my living room right now if I really wanted to, truly FIG, what is the point?! But this crowd in Leipzig is simply LOVING them. Double-twisting double layout to open, step back OOB. Front double full to double front, tiniest movement on the landing. Randi down the side, pretty solid! Think the next was a 2.5 to front layout? Then an arabian double front half-out with a bounce on the landing to finish. 13.966 (5.6, 8.466, -0.1 ND)

10:04 am. Luke Whitehouse GBR FX:  Triple back actually ends up a bit short, chest down and steps forward out of it. Front double full to double front was great, hop forward. Randi down the side with some ankle form. Piked double front was excellent, stuck! Triple full down the side was great. Double double to finish, looked stuck to me! Really just the first pass that didn’t go as well as he would’ve hoped? 14.500 (6.1, 8.300, +0.1 B)

10:00 am. Nazar Chepurnyi UKR FX: Front full to piked double front, lands with a foot OOB. Double double with a strong landing. Double full down the side was clean. 2.5 to front layout kinda went awry, super crooked, and lands with a big step forward OOB. Arabian double front half-out, bounce on the landing. Don’t think he’s super pleased with this, overall it was fine but lots of things are going to add up and hurt his podium chances. 13.166 (5.1, 8.266, -0.2 ND)

9:57 am. The touch is underway! We’ll see Nazar Chepurnyi, Luke Whitehouse, Lorenzo Casali, Artem Dolgopyat, Harry Hepworth, Kevin Penev, Luca Giubellini, and Luca Murabito, in that order.

9:53 am. Athletes are being introduced for the MAG floor final!

    • There’s a 0.2 bonus to encourage gymnasts to do both forward and backward direction. A gymnast who does a Yurchenko and a Tsuk won’t get the bonus, for example, because even though they are different families, the flight is backward in both. But a gymnast who does a Yurchenko and a Yurchenko half-on would get the bonus because one has backward flight and the other has forward.

    • The 0.2 bonus was introduced in the new CoP, it’s awarded when a gymnast does two vaults with flight in opposite directions (e.g. a Lopez and a dty)

  1. I saw someone say Valentina also benefitted from the change in the vault rules because she couldn’t realistically have done those two vaults together before. Could someone explain this to me? A DTY and a Tsuk 1.5 should have been fine under the old rules because they have a different number of twists, right? That’s how you got Jade doing an Amanar and a Zamolodchikova in 2017.
