In about one month, a whole mess of international elites – including dozens and dozens of our favorites – are going to graduate from the junior to senior ranks. I’m sure we can all recall the debuts of some of these kids, especially those who burst onto the scene with insane talent and potential, and now here they are, all grown up and age-eligible for senior international competition?!
More than that, all of the gymnasts listed below will turn 16 just in time to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and some of them will absolutely be game changers, especially for those countries that have yet to qualify at the test event in April. Below are about 250 gymnasts all born in the year 2000, listed in alphabetical order by country. Did we leave anyone behind? Let us know in the comments! Who are you most excited to see?

Giada Grisetti is actually from Switzerland!
And Chiara Gander retired last year…

Thanks, I’ll take Gander off the list…and Grisetti actually just changed her nationality in the past couple of months! Her coach moved to Italy and she followed.

She might still be waiting for the change of nation to go through officially but she should begin competing for Italy next year.

Luo Huan is another new senior for China.

Netherlands: Morgan Spruijtenburg and Bente Kruizinga have retired 😦 .
Olessya Dadema isn’t a member of the national team, and given her results so far, i’m afraid she won’t be on the team in the near future.

Taipei isn’t a country….

For the purposes of Olympic competition, Chinese Taipei is separate from the country of China which is why athletes from Taiwan are listed under Taipei for the purposes of international competition in Olympic sports. Taiwan isn’t recognized as a country on its own and is still claimed as a province by China, but in international organizations (including sports) Taiwanese people are recognized as being from Chinese Taipei and compete for this entity rather than for China.

Actually, Taiwan is generally recognized as an independent nation, in spite of the fact that China still wants to claim it.

Sweden: no elite gymnasts turning senior next year 😦
The Haavisto twins have retired.
Elin Sandberg isn’t on the national team, most likely retired (no results since April 2014…).

Oh, bummer!! I’ve loved the Haavisto twins since they were 12! Too bad, they were lovely.
