Above, Chelsea Knight of NC State celebrates an incredible bars set. Her all-around score of 39.525 was the sixth-best in the country this weekend.
The biggest news in the rankings this week is that for the first time all season, a team has broken the top three bubble that has been a mix of Oklahoma, LSU, and Florida going back to week one. With a 197.800 at home, UCLA managed to push past Florida by five thousandths of a point, which to me, is a more accurate representation of the actual best teams in 2017. Florida has good meets, but there’s something lacking about them this season, with the current top three the most exciting to me this year.
The top three RQS teams also had the three best scores this week, with LSU at 197.875 while Oklahoma and UCLA both scored 197.800, Oklahoma on the road and UCLA at home. If nationals aren’t a bloody battle between these three teams, I will be sorely disappointed because they’re currently setting us up for an incredible competition, though both LSU and UCLA have reputations for being a little iffy when it counts so hopefully they can ride the wave of fire they’ve both been on all season to keep it going next month.
As for other shake-ups, Georgia and Denver have flipflopped once again, and Michigan jumped back into the top ten, pushing both Oregon State and Boise State down a notch each. The real drama is down around that magic #36, however. The top 36 teams get seeded into regionals, and while most teams are cemented into regionals spots, there are still about seven teams that could go either way, with their fates to be decided after conference championships.

So I’m courious if you believe Georgia got home cooking scoring in that last rotation against Utah. I’m sure people would be screaming foul if it was the other way around.

Yup. As I’ve said before, literally every team does it at home, including Georgia, and including Utah. It’s no coincidence that the majority of teams have lower road scores than home. That’s why the RQS exists.
