Our fave Friday Night Heights must-watch is definitely No. 6 Kentucky at No. 2 LSU. While LSU should have a blow-out win at home against the Wildcats, especially coming off of a weak meet at last weekend’s Metroplex Challenge loss, it’s gonna be great to see this super hot Kentucky team compete under the generous LSU judges, so if they hit, even if they lose to the host team, they’ll still be looking at a potential team high this season.
Also in the SEC will be No. 8 Arkansas at No. 10 Alabama and No. 5 Florida at No. 17 Auburn. Bama and Auburn have been riding the struggle bus this season compared to last, though Auburn has made some big strides in recent weeks and will hopefully keep that up, while Bama’s last home meet was a rough one with mistakes on vault and beam so they’ll definitely want to make up for that tonight.
No. 16 Boise State will travel to No. 39 Utah State for an MRGC conference matchup, No. 20 Central Michigan will host No. 45 Southern Utah, and No. 21 Stanford will compete at a quad meet at No. 48 UC Davis alongside No. 40 San Jose State and Division II No. 65 Seattle Pacific.
If Friday’s a bit quiet compared to what we typically see, the weekend is a busy one. No. 3 Utah will compete Saturday afternoon against No. 15 Washington but the real Saturday action on the west coast is No. 12 Arizona State at No. 13 Oregon State. ASU, once at the bottom of the Pac, is now third-best, but the Beavers are a close fourth, just eight thousandths behind the Sun Devils, who have defeated five of six teams they’ve faced so far this season. This will be super close and super exciting, and as someone who loves both underdog teams, I can’t wait to see the outcome.
The SEC also gets a meet in on Saturday, with No. 14 Georgia hosting No. 23 Missouri, and we’ll also get a Big Ten matchup between No. 9 Nebraska and No. 22 Minnesota, while No. 11 Denver will host a quad that will include No. 18 BYU, No. 34 Bowling Green, and No. 44 Ball State.
The meet of the week is on Sunday afternoon, with No. 1 Oklahoma traveling to No. 4 UCLA. Get ready for nonstop pretty gymnastics from these teams, both of which have been on fire in recent weeks. Maggie Nichols has yet to get a 10 this season, and the UCLA judges have been pretty much like “everything’s perfect!!!” in the past, so this could be her week, and I’m also thinking Kyla Ross, Peng Peng Lee, and a few others are probably crossing their fingers for a few tens as well. Just prepare yourself for bananas scoring either way, but also prepare yourself for gorgeous gymnastics and beauty.
No. 7 Michigan also competes on Sunday, hosting No. 36 Maryland, while No. 19 Arizona will compete at No. 31 Cal, and No. 25 George Washington will host a quad featuring No. 32 Kent State, No. 57 William & Mary, and Division III No. 79 Oshkosh.
Some DII and III teams will see some competitive action on Monday and Wednesday, officially part of Week 6, but I threw them in here since the likelihood of me getting out the Week 6 schedule in time is slim to none. 🙂 On Monday, No. 62 West Chester hosts No. 73 Ursinus, and on Wednesday in the WIAC, No. 75 Hamline will travel to No. 77 Eau Claire.
The full schedule is below. All times listed are ET, the first team listed is the host team, and we’ll update any links as they are updated on each program’s schedule. Once the meet is finished, we’ll add results. Enjoy!
