How the Seniors Qualify
Members of the 2022 World Championships team and replacement athletes automatically qualify to national championships.
Otherwise, senior gymnasts must earn a 50.500 all-around score at selected national team training camps held in the second half of 2022 or in 2023, through an international assignment in 2023, and at the Winter Cup, American Classic, or U.S. Classic in 2023. Note that this score was originally set at 51.000 but was dropped half a point following a motion at an international elite committee meeting.
Senior gymnasts may also earn a 39.000 three-event score or a 26.400 two-event score at selected national team training camps in the second half of 2022 or in 2023, and at the American Classic or U.S. Classic in 2023. The Winter Cup does not count as a qualifier for specialists.

Very helpful article, thank you. Do you know how to find out ahead of time which session gymnasts will be in?

Not until USAG announces it! But did they say that nationals will have two senior sessions? I thought it was just one for nationals despite there being two for classics.

I really thought the Miltons were gonna be a thing this quad. If you were to tell me they weren’t going to even make nationals in their senior debut year 3 years ago I would’ve laughed.
A part of me is kinda happy Al doesn’t have them throwing everything and the kitchen sink. *growth* lol

The first time I saw them, I was like omg LOVE, and thought they’d be the top juniors really quickly. I think both have been injured over the past couple of years and have downgraded SO much, one of them is still doing just a layout for one of her passes on floor, it’s depressing thinking about what they were capable of! I hope they can take the next ~6 months to just keep getting healthy and back into fighting form.

One upside is their form has improved a ton over the last year or so doing simpler skills. Could still be a real surprise threat next year if fully healthy. Will be hard with so many vt/fx girls tho. They also don’t graduate until 2026 so they’ll be in the mix for a bit hopefully.

Yes, agree completely! I haven’t given up on them and we’re in an era where the best gymnasts are all NOT 15-17, so I think they absolutely have time and hope they can take things slow and steady until they are ready to bring back bigger skills.

I just read on Kensly’s site that the USA men aren’t having a selection camp for worlds, do you know if the women are Lauren?

Yes, the women are! Apparently the men said they would rather have the team named at nationals because it’s too stressful waiting and training to compete at a trial meet, and then they feel like they’re preparing for that instead of preparing for worlds, which is very valid. Not sure if the women prefer a trial camp or if the women’s program didn’t give them that same option, but as far as I know there will still be a trial in September for WAG.
