Drusch, Wiskus Top U.S. National Qualifiers This Weekend

Tatum Drusch

National qualifiers for both WAG and MAG athletes in the United States were held over the weekend, with Tatum Drusch leading the field at the American Classic in Minneapolis and Shane Wiskus winning the men’s qualifier in Colorado Springs. Additionally, six women and 19 men earned spots at this year’s national championships, which will take place in Phoenix in August.

Drusch, of Flips Gymnastics, looked excellent in her first meet of the year, earning a 53.700 to lead the all-around after a standout performance on beam. Also on the podium were Jade Carey of Oregon State, making her return to competition for the first time since Paris 2024, with a 53.050 for silver (she was slightly downgraded, especially on floor, but looked fantastic overall) and Zoey Molomo of Metroplex with a 52.700 for bronze.

All three also qualified as all-arounders to nationals here, becoming the only seniors to surpass the 52.500 requirement.

Most exciting to watch in the senior field was the return of Katelyn Ohashi, who performed low-difficulty but stellar routines on beam and floor to kick off her first elite competition in over a decade at 29 years old. Now training at Pacific Reign, her beam looked most elite-ready, with confidence across every skill – especially on her standing arabian – and she finished third on this apparatus. Though her combined score wasn’t enough to qualify to nationals, I think she set a solid foundation for her comeback and with some upgrades, she is definitely one to watch over the next year.

Madelyn Eagle won the junior competition with a 51.900, ahead of WOGA teammate Sofie Davtyan with a 50.250 for silver, while Espy Chang of Pacific Reign won the bronze with a 49.700. Chang had already qualified to nationals via the Winter Cup, but both Eagle and Davtyan earned their scores here, as did Anslee McCauley of Georgia All-Star, whose 49.500 for fourth place was exactly what she needed to make it.

In the men’s qualifier, Wiskus of EVO Gymnastics earned an 84.157 (including about five tenths of bonus) to lead the senior field by four points and easily secure a spot at nationals. His best work came on parallel bars, and he also had a great high bar set, but in general I don’t think he had a single weak moment all day.

Nicolas Kuebler of Stanford won silver in the all-around with an 80.202 (+0.202 in bonus) while Hasan Aydogdu of Illinois won bronze with a 79.905 (+0.305 in bonus). Both also qualified to nationals, as did Olympic medalist Stephen Nedoroscik of EVO Gymnastics, who was notable for his win on pommel horse with a 14.300.

Additional nationals qualifiers include Asher Cohen of Nebraska, Kyler Hinson of Greenville, Xander Hong of Stanford, Michael Jaroh of EVO Gymnastics, Cash Johnston of Army West Point, Ben Letvin of Minnesota GymACT, Alex Noel of Oklahoma, Justin Park of Agility, David Ramirez of Ohio State, and Kellen Ryan of Minnesota GymACT.

The junior all-around title went to Nixon Miles of Gym Olympica with a 75.509 (+1.359 bonus), who won ahead of EVO Gymnastics athletes Jake Wazolek with a 71.790 (+0.590 bonus) for silver and Finn Boatman with a 70.300 for bronze. These three along with Mason Martin of 5280 Gymnastics (fourth place with a 70.150) earned nationals berths here.
