11:05 am. Felix Dolci CAN SR: Nice control on the straddle planche and on the handstands, a little shaky on a handstand after, double pike to double tuck to straddle sit, a little awkward in the transition, but not bad, excellent double double, just a hop. 13.600 (4.5 D, 9.100 E)

11:02 am. Shinnosuke Oka JPN SR: Double pike up to straddle planche, nice, pressed into handstand. Double tuck up into handstand, double twisting double layout, pretty low landing, step out of it. 13.400 (4.6 D, 8.800 E)

11:00 am. Garrett Braunton USA SR: Straddle planche is great, swings down to a handstand, full-twisting double layout dismount. Excellent work! 13.333 (4.4 D, 8.933 E)

10:54 am. Diogo Soares BRA SR: L sit pressed into handstand, tiniest waver, the rest was great, double double with a little bobble. 13.500 (4.5 D, 9.000 E)

10:51 am. Yang Yanzhi CHN SR: Planche is a bit awkward with his legs too high, but then he transitions it beautifully into a Maltese. Saltos into an L sit, a little rushed, swinging quite a bit in a handstand, and then his next handstand is a tad short, and he falls backwards out of the handstand after it, good control to bring it back up. Double double with a little hop. 13.000 (4.6 D, 8.400 E)

10:48 am. Ivan Kuliak RUS SR: Straddle planche, double pike to double tuck to straddle sit, oof, he goes past the position at first and has to fix it, double double, step back. 13.333 (4.5 D, 8.833 E)

10:46 am. Isaiah Drake USA SR: High planche to L sit, smooth into a handstand, double pike to double tuck to L sit, wobbly in the handstands after, full-twisting double tuck with a little adjustment on the landing, great work. 13.400 (4.4 D, 9.900 E)

10:31 am. Viktoria Listunova RUS UB: Van Leeuwen, inbar half to straddle Jaeger, quite close, nice handstand, inbar to big Tkachev to Pak, just the tiniest leg separation in the Pak, Maloney to blind full, nice, full-in with a hop forward. Beautiful tuck position and form. Excellent! 14.200 (5.7 D, 8.500 E)

10:29 am. Noémie Louon BEL UB: Maloney to Pak, didn’t get a ton of backswing out of the Maloney. Van Leeuwen, some leg form, toe-on to handstand, nice, blind full, blind change to piked Jaeger, nice height, full-in, chest a bit low. 13.100 (5.1 D, 8.000 E)

10:26 am. Ou Yushan CHN UB: Lovely handstand before Komova II to Pak, great. Maloney to Gienger, clean, short handstand before toe full, a tad late but not bad, blind change to front giant to piked Jaeger, SUPER high, toe-on, full-in with a little hop back and an arm swing. 13.766 (5.7 D, 8.066 E)

10:22 am. Touch warm-up for the second half of the rotation, which will include Ou Yushan, Noémie Louon, Viktoriia Listunova, and Stacy Bertrandt!

10:20 am. Skye Blakely USA UB: Great handstand before beautiful inbar to Ricna to Pak, fantastic series! Another lovely handstand before the van Leeuwen, perfect handstand before the toe-half to front giant half, stalder to stalder full almost right on the bar, to full-in, little bobble. That was super well-done. 13.766 (5.5 D, 8.266 E)

10:17 am. Kayla DiCello USA UB: Stalder full, a little late, to Maloney to Pak, nice air on the Pak. Great van Leeuwen, then arches over a handstand before her clear hip, amazing control to bring it back into the blind change to piked Jaeger, toe half is short, full-out, some leg form, solid landing. 13.500 (5.3 D, 8.200 E)

10:14 am. Vladislava Urazova RUS UB: Short handstand before toe-on to Komova II to Pak, slight leg separation. Clean van Leeuwen, inbar half right to handstand, into a piked Jaeger, great. Toe full, ankle separation, to full-in, small step back. 14.433 (5.9 D, 8.533 E)

10:11 am. Wei Xiaoyuan CHN UB: Clean handstand before inbar full (a little bit late), short handstand before Maloney to Pak, very clean in the Pak, van Leeuwen, the twist was so seamless I barely saw it! Inbar to inbar half to piked Jaeger, lovely, double layout, the first flip was the floatiest EVER. Just landed it a bit low, step forward. 13.800 (5.7 D, 8.100 E)

10:01 am. POMMEL HORSE STANDINGS

1. Takeru Kitazono JPN 13.966

3. Edvins Rodevics LAT 13.233
4. Gagik Khachikyan ARM 13.033
5. Mateo Zugec CRO 13.000
6. Illia Kovtun UKR 11.800
7. Samad Mammadli AZE 11.000
8. Yang Haonan CHN 10.033

9:59 am. Gagik Khachikyan ARM PH: A little clunky at the beginning but once he gets going he finds a good pace and looks nice. Good routine! 13.033 (4.9 D, 8.133 E)

9:56 am. Shinnosuke Oka JPN PH: I want him and Asher to win a joint Olympic AA title in 2024. Scissors, great work out of them into handstand, flairs are excellent, he’s so tidy and fabulous. Fantastic. 13.766 (5.0 D, 8.766 E)

9:53 am. Yang Haonan CHN PH: Eek, has a weird little bobble near the beginning and just comes off the side, it didn’t seem like anything was going wrong, just a weird fluke with his hand positioning. Does the same thing again on another element later on. Back on for the dismount. 10.033 (3.4 D, 6.633 E)

9:51 am. Edvins Rodevics LAT PH: Slow and steady at the beginning, he is SO LONG omg, his extension goes on for days. His legs are a little floppy throughout, and he’s a bit close to the horse, but that was a nice routine, not super difficult but he was great. 13.233 (4.7 D, 8.533 E)

9:44 am. Illia Kovtun UKR PH: Scissor work at the beginning, single-pommel work is going well but then as he tries to transition off of the single pommel, he loses his rhythm and has to hop off. Back on, gets a little stuck in his handstand pirouette, goes into flairs for his traveling work, just some leg separation at the beginning, hip angle is getting a bit closed near the end, muscles up into handstand for the dismount. 11.800 (5.5 D, 6.300 E)

9:42 am. Takeru Kitazono JPN PH: Really aggressive in his flairs, YAAAAS. Does flair work in mostly all of his elements, leg separation just as he goes into the transition up to handstand for his dismount, but fantastic and lovely routine. 13.966 (5.2 D, 8.766 E)

9:40 am. Mateo Zugec CRO PH: Quick on his scissor work at the start. Nice swing, mostly really nice lines, starts getting lots of leg separations near the end, though. Hit routine! 13.000 (4.5 D, 8.500 E)

9:38 am. Samad Mammadli AZE PH: Had a fall in there, I didn’t see them start but overall he was very nice in his swing and had decent difficulty. 11.000 (5.0 D, 6.000 E)

9:16 am. Medal ceremonies happening now for the first two events!

9:13 am. WOMEN’S VAULT STANDINGS

1. Kayla DiCello USA 14.166
2. Jennifer Gadirova GBR 14.133
3. Vladislava Urazova RUS 14.116
4. Anastasiia Motak UKR 13.950
5. Sydney Barros USA 13.916
6. Guan Chenchen CHN 13.683
7. Camilla Campagnaro ITA 13.683
8. Viktoriia Listunova RUS 13.599

9:10 am. Jennifer Gadirova GBR VT: Yurchenko 1.5, had some slight leg form in the air, but the landing was EXCELLENT. Huge air on her FTY, tiny bounce back, super clean in the air. Excellent work. 14.133 to take over second!!!!!!!

9:07 am. Guan Chenchen CHN VT: Tsuk full to start was nice, and then a tsuk double with a step to the side for the second. Solid on both. 13.683 average.

9:02 am. Kayla DiCello USA VT: Huge DTY, leg and hip form are mostly good until the very end, small bounce back. Def the strongest DTY. 14.600! Second is the FTY, very good, bounce back. 14.166 average to move into first!! Listunova just made a VERY Komova face when she saw that LMAOOOOO.

8:56 am. Camilla Campagnaro ITA VT: DTY, actually not bad! I think one of the better ones we’ve seen so far in terms of having power AND better attention to her form. Hop back. Second vault is a tsuk full with a huge bounce back. Great for her going for two different families! 13.683 average.

8:50 am. Viktoriia Listunova RUS VT: DTY from this angle looks like she barely gets over the table, side angle still shows that she gets about two feet of distance away from the table which is gonna kill her E. Legs aren’t great in the air at all. Bounce back. 13.966 for that one. FTY, solid landing, but still not a ton of power and her leg form isn’t great. She had toe point in her run though, so 10,000 extra bonus points. 13.599 average.

8:47 am. Vladislava Urazova RUS VT: DTY to start is mostly clean, the first twist was better than the second. Big lunge back. Yurchenko 1.5 has a bounce forward, but she flared it open! It was mostly very nice in the air. 14.116 average to jump into the lead!

8:45 am. Anastasiia Motak UKR VT: DTY, some knee form, small hop back. Yurchenko 1.5, again with the knee form, small hop forward. Average 13.950 to get in ahead of Sydney.

8:41 am. Sydney Barros USA VT: Starts with a DTY, not really a ton of power in that one, weak with bent elbows coming off the table, some knee form, and a low landing with a lunge forward. Second vault is an FTY, much cleaner, small hop back. Average 13.916

8:37 am. The women are warming up vault now!

8:31 am. MEN’S FLOOR STANDINGS

1. Ryu Sung-hyun KOR 14.166
2. Felix Dolci CAN 14.000
3. Nazar Chepurnyi UKR 13.866
4. Ryosuke Doi JPN 13.800
5. Lorenzo Casali ITA 13.600
6. Matthew Cormier USA 13.566
7. Takeru Kitazono JPN 13.333
8. Sam Mostowfi GBR 13.266

8:28 am. Ryosuke Doi JPN FX: Double double was excellent! Hit the next couple of passes, both with twists, I wasn’t paying close enough attention to know what they were. Double full side pass and triple full to finish. 13.800 (5.4 D, 8.400 E)

8:25 am. Felix Dolci CAN FX: Piked double front and then hit his second pass with a hop back. Front layout to randi, solid! 2.5 to barani, clean and floaty. Slides his heels together on the final pass, a triple full, great landing. 14.000 (5.2 D, 8.800 E)!

8:22 am. Ryu Sung-hyun KOR FX: Double front half-out, little bobble. Front full to randi, nice! Hit the third pass, I didn’t see what it was. Triple full, hop to the side. 2.5 at the end. Great work! 14.166 (5.5 D, 8.666 E)!

8:19 am. Lorenzo Casali ITA FX: Front double full to barani and triple full, excellent! Great 2.5 to Rudi. Double full, some leg form. Hit routine. 13.600 (5.1 D, 8.500 E)

8:14 am. Sam Mostowfi GBR FX: Bounce back on the first pass, didn’t see what it was, though. Second was a solid 2.5 to barani, then a front double full to front full. Clean double full. Excellent stuck triple full at the end! 13.266 (5.0 D, 8.566 E, -0.3 ND)

8:11 am. Nazar Chepurnyi UKR FX: Double front half-out, a little bit low, small hop. Double double, forward, but good cover. 2.5 to Rudi, great! Toe point in his flairs, get it. Hit the rest well. 13.866 (5.2 D, 8.666 E)

8:08 am. Matthew Cormier USA FX: Double double, slight bounce back. Front double full to front full, great! Triple full at the end with a little bounce back but it opened up beautifully in the air. I missed a couple of passes in there but that was excellent!! 13.566 (5.0 D, 8.566 E)

8:05 am. Takeru Kitazono JPN FX: Front double pike and double double are both done very well! Hit a twisting pass after. 2.5, comes out of it a little wonky into the barani. Triple full, a little short and crunched into the corner, hop. 13.333 (5.0 D, 8.333 E)

8:04 am. Touch warm-up is just finishing up!

7:58 am. The junior world event finals will begin shortly with the men’s floor exercise!

    • I think it’s not right to say that the junior girls are “cold” to one another – they’re competitors and it is not and should not be a requirement to congratulate or hug your opponents during a competition. IMO it isn’t cold to ignore the others and focus on yourself while the meet is going on, and I don’t think it’s right to expect gymnasts to make some kind of display while they’re on the sidelines or waiting for results.

But I agree it is very nice when they congratulate each other and I hope the junior girls will follow the boys’ example in the future. It helps build camaraderie and international understanding, and it’s always a plus to be gracious and kind.

      • Personally I would hate to be hugged by everyone. I think the handshaking was fine. Most of these girls are young and many have never done a huge comp like this before.

        • In many countries, like mine (France), hugs just don’t exist. I live in a no-hug country : handshaking or bisous (kissing) 🥰

    • I can’t wait to see what she can do for GB later on. that 1.5 and FTY were so good that I’m sure she’ll have a double almost ready to go. If everyone stays healthy, it’s going to be super had to pick squads from next year.

  2. How much do you think Kayla lost on that handstand arch-over (or whatever the technical term is)? Could she have challenged for a medal without it?

    • I hate that ! Abusive jury. Abusing their power in a sport that kids work so hard so early. They should have being banned from the committee . Disgusting, I feel sorry for the Chinese!
It is a trend to use the E score to overscore the fave ones.
I wonder if gymnastics is not going to totally ruin. Really. Imagine how much the girl worked hard to have her medal stolen like that.
Shame on this jury, Fig only shit in their pants and do nothing serious to avoid that. Well, you have freaking Nelly still there, what to expect???

      • I’m not a judge, but the Russians’ routines were very clean and fluid, with good rhythm and grip positions and beautiful height of flight elements, especially for Urazova. And don’t forget that they had the highest level of difficulty.
Urazova’s handstands are not perfect but, according to the COP, they are not piked but stretch and her body is aligned; the handstand position is not reached but the COP is quite complex about deductions which depend on the skills performed. Globally, the deduction is -0,1 if the handstand is inferior from 10° to 30°, but after some skills, the reached handstand is not required (P.5 of the COP).
Plus, the angles of completion of Urazova are beautiful. She always gets such e-scores (when she hits) in international competitions (Jesolo, European junior championships).
Concerning Listunova, her handstands were better than Urazova’s, but her Pak salto lacked of amplitude and she had more minor issues.
One of the Chinese girls had really poor rythm in more than one elements (-0,1 each). I also think that Skye had some problems with grip position. Maybe Lauren could explain with more precision ?

  3. I’m sorry I’m totally confused by the UB judging, the Chinese were the cleaner ones and yet they got (the lowest E scores, 8.100 and 8.066).

Meanwhile Urasova got 8.533 when she never reached her handstands, and DiCello got 8.200 with 2 major errors. Noemi also, got only 8.000 when her only big mistake was her shap half. I think the judging were biased.

Listnova was quite clean though I think she should’ve won the gold medal.

    • Although Skye’s routine was errorless and clean, something about her rhythm on bars seemed off. Everything just seemed rushed and aggressive. I don’t know maybe there isn’t exactly a deduction for that, but it just isn’t as pleasant to watch.
