16. Jimmy Verbaeys BEL 78.431
17. Moreno Kratter SUI 78.299
18. Marios Georgiou CYP 76.164

9:39 am. David Belyavskiy RUS HB: One-arm pirouette, stoop full, stoop half, layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev half, Yamawaki, good, German giants, full-twisting double layout dismount with a tiny bounce. Excellent! And a 14.033 gets him the gold! 85.465 AA!

9:37 am. Artur Davtyan ARM HB: I wasn’t watching super closely but nice hit routine with a tucked double double dismount. Had a Tkachev in there, and a Yamawaki from what I recall. Just not a super difficult set.

9:32 am. Oleg Verniaiev UKR FX: Double double, small hop, then something into a barani is good. 2.5 to front full. Randi, a little low, small hop. Triple full, a little messy with a bounce back but he’s happy with that. 14.000 to go into the lead with an 84.632!!!!!!

9:30 am. Nestor Abad ESP HB: Hit a release at the beginning, then a layout Tkachev half and straddle Tkachev, goes a bit crooked on a pirouette, stuck the dismount, mostly good work there. 82.531 to finish.

9:27 am. Vladislav Poliashov RUS HB: Tkachev half, one-arm full pirouette, Yamawaki is floaty, to pirouette work and German giants, double double layout with a small step. He moves into first place after that, 84.464!

9:26 am. Nicolo Mozzato ITA FX: Double front half-out, a little messy and low. Double tuck, also a bit low, bounce. Weird punch out of his third pass but hit the fourth.

Sounds like they finally safely got Marios Georgiou off the podium.

9:23 am. Petro Pakhniuk UKR FX: Hit his opening pass and then went SOOOO low on a double front, big lunge out of it. Front full to front double full, again REALLY low. 2.5 to barani is much better. 13.366, very solid AA of 84.031!

9:22 am. Nice 80.598 for Marco Pfyl, I like that Switzerland sent some guys who aren’t really super A team but will be the ones stepping in for the always-injured A team.

9:20 am. Marios Georgiou CYP HB: I missed what he did, a release that had a twist, looked laid-out, Cassina maybe? Super hard fall on his back and he looks injured. KILL MEEEEEEEEEE.

9:18 am. PHEW. I honestly have almost no idea what’s happening with the men after the last rotation. I just know David and Petro killed it on p-bars, and Oleg hit high bar…I feel like I haven’t seen Poliashov since pommels, and I know Marios got knocked down due to p-bars but I missed why (that was my fault, I was trying to double team this stream and junior worlds).

9:09 am. Oleg Verniaiev UKR HB: Hit the first releases, lost some form in his pirouettes, double double layout dismount with a big hop back. Hit!

9:05 am. Angelina Melnikova RUS VT: DTY, tons of power, lunge back. Excellent! Wow, she has cleaned this up a ton! 14.266, and she finishes with a 54.498 to take the gold!

9:04 am. Georgia-Mae Fenton GBR VT: DTY, not a ton of power and short on the landing, chest down with a step. Mostly clean in the air though. Oh, looks like her hands hit the mat actually in the replay. Wonder if the judges caught it. Yeah, they did. 13.000, and she finishes her day with a 51.066.

9:03 am. Lorette Charpy FRA VT: Beautiful FTY, 13.500!

Lorette with a 54.166 which challenges Angelina’s qualifications score!

9:00 am. Petro Pakhniuk UKR HB: Caught everything, hit the full-twisting double layout dismount.

Just a 49.666 for Anastasiia Bachynska today. Naomi Visser at 51.698, Aneta Holasova at 50.932.

8:58 am. Marios Georgiou CYP PB: Hit routine! I didn’t pay close attention to any details or anything but what I saw was good. 13.966 so obviously something went wrong.

Anastasiia Bachynska UKR VT: Solid FTY, looked clean in the air, extension is fantastic and toes are pointed, just a leg up on the landing.

8:57 am. Diana Varinska UKR VT: Yurchenko 1.5, some form things, but lands it well enough!

52.766 AA for Diana, Aline Friess with a 52.699 after bars, great day for her!

8:55 am. David Belyavskiy RUS PB: Came out of one handstand particularly short, the rest is looking super clean and smooth though. Beautiful routine. 15.433

8:54 am. Denisa Golgota ROU VT: DTY, leg form and a bit short with her chest forward, step to the side OOB. 13.966

Denisa gets a 50.565 for her AA score.

8:53 am. Ferhat Arican TUR HB: Yamawaki, layout Tkachev, floaty straddle Tkachev, came out of a pirouette weirdly, hop full hips were a bit crooked, step back on the full-twisting double layout dismount. 12.666

8:46 am. Lorette Charpy FRA FX: Going back in time to witness this. Double front, really low. Double tuck, small bounce. Clean front full to stag. Solid double pike.

8:44 am. Georgia-Mae Fenton GBR FX: Triple full, wild landing, bounces OOB. My internet kind of crapped out a bit so I saw her hit the last pass but nothing else…hoping for a replay! Double tuck stuck cold at the end in the replay, love! 12.566

8:43 am. A 13.100 for Lorette Charpy on floor keeps her in the lead!

8:40 am. Lorette Charpy’s on floor and they’re not showing it. Of course. Why show the routines of the two women in the lead in this rotation? Who needs it? NOT I.

8:38 am. Petro Pakhniuk UKR PB: Excellent routine with a great dismount.

Naomi Visser 13.433 for her FTY, Aline Friess has hit every event so far and just got a 14.800 on her Rudi so look for her to be up there in the standings!

8:36 am. Anastasiia Bachynska UKR FX: Tucked full-in, low, lunge forward. Arabian double front is clean but too far back on her heels, sits it. 😦 Switch ring, low back leg, to split ring leap, again the back leg isn’t really a ring. Good double pike, just a tad forward. Double tuck, wild landing, bounces back OOB. Oof. 11.600

8:32 am. Diana Varinska UKR FX: 1.5 through to double full, lunge back but gets the rotation around. 2.5 to front tuck, hop forward. Switch ring to split ring leap, nice. Double tuck, almost stuck. Great routine! 13.266

8:31 am. Vladislav Poliashov RUS VT: Handspring double front, almost to his bum, super low.

8:30 am. DID WE REALLY NOT SEE ANGELINA MELNIKOVA ON FLOOR??????? 13.166

8:28 am. David Belyavskiy RUS VT: Hit! Something with a double pike but I didn’t see the entry.

Oleg Verniaiev UKR PB: Went really bizarre on a handstand and had to fight for a few seconds to muscle it back up. The rest was good. Stuck the double front half-out. 15.100!

8:27 am. Anastasiya Alistratava BLR VT: Just a Yurchenko layout, looked good.

8:26 am. Artur Davtyan ARM VT: WOW FINALLY. Dragulescu, huge lunge out of it, but don’t think he put his knee down. 14.100

8:25 am. Next rotation about to begin! I wonder what the ratio will be between routines and nothing?

8:17 am. Lorette Charpy FRA BB: Loso mount, lovely and effortless. Bhs loso, tiny slide back. Triple wolf turn, double wolf turn, both had solid control. Side aerial, clean, switch leap to split leap to Korbut, excellent. Front aerial, check, double pike, lunge back. The beginning was brilliant. Really just the aerial and the dismount with minor errors. 13.700!!!!!

8:14 am. Oh wow more sitting around!!!! SHOCKING. What is happening honestly. We’ve been watching nothing for a solid five minutes. Literally since Naomi’s floor we haven’t seen anything except standing around despite multiple routines going on.

8:13 am. The “what to show” decisions being made on this stream are NBC levels of insane.

8:12 am. Denisa Golgota with a 13.433 on beam!!!

8:09 am. Naomi Visser NED FX: Triple full was underrotated, punch front out of it basically went sideways. High double tuck, bounce back. Some of her turns were a little stumbly. Double full at the end was solid. 12.933

8:07 am. Artur Davtyan with a 13.966 on rings! I still don’t think we’ve seen him at all.

With the “weakest” gymnastics group going on vault this rotation while the strongest group started on bars and hasn’t vaulted yet, the standings after this rotation for the women are going to be NUTS.

8:04 am. Diana Varinska UKR FX: I missed the mount, caught it from the layout series, great! Switch to split leap, front aerial to split ring jump, mostly good, little bobble at the end of that second one. Side somi, hip adjustment. Split leap into a side aerial, check. Hit the dismount.

8:01 am. David Belyavskiy RUS SR: Saltos into an iron cross, excellent control. His salto form is SO tight. Hit the dismount with a baby hop back.

7:59 am. Oh, Georgia-Mae Fenton only got an 11.7 on beam, but they didn’t show it. So pretty much every top group gymnast has had a fall or big mistake so far. LORETTE, THIS IS YOUR DAY.

7:57 am. Angelina Melnikova RUS BB: Clean switch leap mount. Missed her foot on her layout series and grabbed the beam. WELP. Why is she the queen of qualifications but then can’t follow through to the finals?! Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump. Kochetkova was done well. Double wolf turn, notable toe point. Switch leap had great air. Double pike with a bounce. Oh damn, 13.100 still with the beam grab!!!! So mad, this could’ve been her best international score all quad!

The live blog for junior worlds is here!

7:56 am. With junior worlds event finals starting I won’t be able to track scores for European Games super well but I’ll still have the end of the rotation standings.

7:55 am. Robert Tvorogal LTU SR: Nice straddle planche. Saltos transitioned well up into handstand. Hit the dismount.

Oleg Verniaiev hit vault in the background.

7:54 am. Bianka Schermann HUN VT: Flew off the mat on her vault, I didn’t see what she did, oh here’s the replay, went for a DTY but tucked it throughout and had a super rough landing. Is kinda laughing about it though.

7:48 am. Oleg Verniaiev UKR SR: Fell on the dismount OLEGGGGG WHY

7:45 am. Anastasiia Bachynska UKR UB: Stalder to Maloney to Pak, EEEEEP, one hand didn’t come down to catch AT ALL and she basically just plowed into the low bar. GOD. Back on for the van Leeuwen, toe full is super late, into a low Tkachev, Jaeger was better, arabian double front dismount lunged forward. Well, that was a bummer.

Senna Deriks with a 12.333 on floor

7:43 am. Vladislav Poliashov RUS PH: Noooo, it was going well but then right at the end during his flairs he missed a hand and grabbed a single pommel to try to save it, but couldn’t keep the rhythm going, fall. Literally right before the dismount.

7:42 am. Diana Varinska UKR UB: Chow to Pak is lovely. Maloney to clear hip full, Tkachev half to Jaeger, comes out of the Tkachev too low and misses the catch on the Jaeger. I could see her struggling with catching the Tkachev in the touch warm-up unfortunately. Full-in is stuck. 12.700

Elina Vihrova with a 12.666 on floor!

7:41 am. Aneta Holasova with a 12.033 on beam with mistakes which is impressive.

7:39 am. Marios Georgiou CYP PH: Nice transition from handstand down to his scissor work. Super nice high swing. Good up into his pirouettes, then down into his flairs, traveling in flairs, he is being SOOOOOO AGGRESSIVE, DAYUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was fantastic.

7:36 am. David Belayvskiy RUS PH: We jumped into this a bit fast so I wasn’t typing but everything I saw looked fab, one-arm swing at the beginning, very nice work. 14.233

Someone on bars just fell on her Jaeger. Looks like a Romanian leo so I’m guessing that was Denisa Golgota.

Artur Davtyan with a 14.400 on pommels!! I love that he’s basically gonna lead after this rotation and we haven’t heard a word about him.

7:34 am. Anastasiya Alistratava BLR BB: Nice loso mount. Split leap to front aerial is a great series! Bhs loso, slightly crooked, break at the hips but saves it. Transverse split jump half lands too far forward and she falls. 😦 The crowd SHRIEKED. So nice to have such a world class gymnast in the senior ranks just in time for this event in Minsk. Good jump series. Bends her knee at the end of her double wolf turn to save it. Switch leap to tour jeté, beautiful series! Double tuck with a step back. 11.533

7:33 am. Angelina Melnikova RUS UB: Inbar full, hips a little crooked, to Maloney to Pak, oof, hard catch, van Leeuwen, inbar half, muscled through it with leg form, to piked Jaeger, short handstand after, late on the toe full, and hop on the dismount. Well that was a struggle bus of a routine but good on her for saving EVERY SINGLE mishap. 13.966

7:32 am. Nikolaos Iliopoulos with a 14.133 on vault.

Lorette Charpy with a 13.866 and Georgia-Mae Fenton with a 13.800 on bars. Are we just not doing Olympic order?

7:31 am. Robert Tvorogal LTU PH: Leg form at the end was nuts but he fought through the routine and hit! 13.333

Someone in the background is hitting bars very well!

7:27 am. Aleksandra Shchekoldina RUS BB: Side aerial to split jump to straddle jump, nice work! Glad she’s finally getting out there as a senior after injuries. Full turn, tiny bobble. Bhs loso loso, knees and feet need to be better extended, and she’s crooked, fall. Switch leap is lovely, into a split leap. Bobble on the side somi. Transverse split jump half is very well done. Front aerial to split ring jump, pretty good from this angle. Bobble at the end. Double full with a hop. 11.733

There are too many events going on at a time right now to show one full minute of replays and sitting around.

7:25 am. The women will be competing beginning in this rotation.

7:24 am. My couch just arrived. AMAZING TIMING.

7:23 am. ROTATION 1 STANDINGS

1. Oleg Verniaiev UKR 14.800
2. Nestor Abad ESP 14.400
3. Vladislav Poliashov RUS 14.366
4. Robert Tvorogal LTU 14.100
5. Petro Pakhniuk UKR 13.933
6. Artur Davtyan ARM 13.800
7. Marios Georgiou CYP 13.766
8. Nikolaos Iliopoulos GRE 13.333

7:19 am. Marco Pfyl SUI PH: Nice and high in his swing at the beginning. Legs get a bit shady in his travels. Oof, knee bent right before the dismount, but good save, and it was really nice until then.

7:18 am. I think Ferhat Arican is competing as we speak and they’re showing David Belyavskiy standing around instead so I’ll be sending a strongly-worded letter. 13.133 for him on pommels.

7:15 am. Marios Georgiou CYP FX: Double double, flares it out, solid landing. Front layout (weirdly arched) to front double full. 2.5 to barani is great. Clean double full. Triple full, a little short, chest forward and a step forward but overall good job with this set. 13.766, almost a full point up from quals!

Giarnni Regini-Moran with just an 11.366 to start on pommels 😦

7:12 am. David Belyavskiy RUS FX: I missed what he did for the first few passes as my blog was refreshing but saw him hit aside from going a bit wildly OOB on the first. Caught it at the randi I believe. 2.5 to barani was lovely. Triple full had a bit too much power, step back to control it. One of his passes in the replay was an arabian double front half-out, which looked nice. 13.300

Artur Davtyan 13.800 on floor.

7:09 am. Oleg Verniaiev UKR PH: Lovely work at the start. I feel like his hip angle could be better on most elements but there are times where he stretches out fully and it’s beautiful. Smooth transition up into the dismount. Fab job. 14.800, he looks pissed omg

7:06 am. Robert Tvorogal LTU FX: Piked double front, nice landing. Double front in the tucked position after with a tiny hop. Front double full to barani, clean and solid. 1.5 to front full is also done well. Hit his side pass. Just a layout for his second-to-last pass, cute, and then he finishes with a 2.5, a little messy there with a step, but overall a solid, if not super difficult routine. 14.100

Nestor Abad with a 14.400 on floor!

7:05 am. I like that they feel zero need to show the top guys. Vladislav Poliashov had a 14.366 on his floor exercise. Here we go, I think we’ll get floor now.

7:03 am. Nicola Mozzato ITA PH: Scissor work at the beginning goes well. Legs are all over the place throughout the rest but he’s great at bringing it back together to finish strong. Could’ve been worse! 12.800

7:02 am. I believe it’s just going to be the men for the first rotation, and then the women will join in the next, FYI.

7:01 am. Moreno Kratter SUI SR: His handstands are a tad shaky. Saltos into a pike sit is a nice connection. Stuck the double double!! Not super difficult but great job on that dismount. 13.000

6:58 am. For the women, Angelina Melnikova had a great qualification meet to finish about five tenths ahead of the rest of the field, and right behind her were Georgia-Mae Fenton and Lorette Charpy, but there are several others who have the potential to sneak into that mix. It’ll be similar to European Championships where qualifications meant nothing, and one fall or semi-major mistake could be the end of the podium.

6:57 am. Good morning! I went to bed at 9:30 pm in anticipation of being up for the Euro Games, Junior World Championships (which starts in another hour from now), AND the delivery of my couch, all happening simultaneously. What a Saturday.

I’m hoping this stream will air with no issues on the Olympic Channel, but there’s also a stream from Belarus that should serve as a backup.

Both the men and the women will compete in the all-around final at the same time, which will be annoying as hell for streaming purposes, but I’ll be blogging both, and live results for both can be found here.

  1. Lauren, you are THE QUEEN, live blogging both the Juniors and European Games. That is bad ass. I hope that couch has been delivered, so you can at least sit comfortably.

    • Hahaha YES it got delivered between the first two rotations at Euro Games!!!! Perfect timing. I haven’t taken it out yet but for tomorrow’s live blogging I’ll have the most amazing seat.

    • So frustrating. MAG and WAG at the same time for the European Games and we have to watch slow motion, the gymnasts packing their bags and people on the stands waiting for the scores. Meanwhile Lorette Charpy is on floor with her James Bond music and we miss millions of exciting routines by men and women.

  2. Diana Varinska has been consistently struggling on her Tkatchev to Jaeger combo. She needs to take it out. Even when she hits, she lands in a near-dead hang. Oh well, though, she’s beautiful on bars so it’s always a bummer to see that happen.

On a side note, France being in the lead in women’s all around is making me super excited 😀

  3. Oleg is coming back! Well the competition is not as strong as in the European Championships but what a great result for him. Can we also appreciate how elegant and clean Néstor Abad is? He deserves a medal just for running for his vault.
Lorette Charpy has been so consistent for the last 12 months. What an achievement
