*Belarusian athletes competed neutrally here due to their nations assistance in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
I am more than surprised to see a gymnast representing Belarus compete. I thought they were banned from everything now like the Russian athletes since they are potentially aiding the Russian forces. Guess not. Russian figure skaters were just banned from world championships. Maybe gymnastics isn’t following suit.

Russian and Belarusian gymnasts are banned as of March 7. The Belarusian athletes who were in Cottbus and the Russian and Belarusian athletes who were in Doha competed neutrally, unable to display their flag, colors, or country name, similar to what happened with “ROC” at the Olympics. But due to backlash, the FIG has decided to ban them going forward.

Wow. Thank you for the information. I know it’s a shame for the athletes but they can thank Vladimir the lunatic for that.

Yeah, it’s horrible. There are some athletes who I’m sure are against the war but who can’t say anything against Putin without risking jail time. Then there are other athletes like one in Doha today who put the pro-Russian invasion Z on his chest over his ROC patch during the medal ceremony where Ukraine’s Illia Kovtun won the gold. FIG needs to ban him for violating their code of discipline like…NOW.

Yes, political symbols are banned, aren’t they? Very poor taste either way and unacceptable.

Yes they are, but you’re correct – even if there wasn’t a rule, doing something like this in full view of a Ukrainian athlete is just beyond my wildest comprehension. The kind of person you have to be to do this. Appalling. What a smug little monster.

Oh my god. Which Russian athlete did that?

Never mind, just read on Luba’s site that it was Ivan Kuliak. What a POS.

Yes they do. What an appalling thing for him to do.

There’s a picture of Kuliak on CNN site with the Z on his chest. He’s got a little smirk going on his face. I don’t feel the least bit bad about him being banned. Looks like a snot nosed little teenager in the pic. Bombs dropping on civilians and fires at nuclear power plants are so cool, right kid? Better be careful you don’t get conscripted if you can’t compete. I bet you wouldn’t think that was cool.

Literally all of my feelings. I try to stay low-key on this site and its social media accounts, but on my private twitter I was like if this smug little asshole loves war so much maybe he should stop playing around on p-bars and go off and fight and see the horrors of what war actually is and realize along with the other 18-year-old babies that this isn’t a video game. And if you survive, enjoy the lifetime of PTSD I guess. Anyway, I hope they ban this kid beyond the general ban. He broke FIG disciplinary rules and deserves at least a few years of suspension, though a lifetime ban would also be nice. The mere fact that he did it WITH Kovtun on the podium…the more I think about it the more enraged I feel.

Do you know the crazy things and nuances that have been happening in The Ukraine Lauren? Im taking it you dont since you feel so enraged, and dont understand how this could have ever happened besides Putin being the villian your media portrays him as! Of course the people will suffer, but they have already suffered under the Ukranian government, something they dont care about and never have, THEIR PEOPLE. American sjws love to call out white supremacy, and fake nazis over tiki torches, and benign micro aggressions, but when its actually an issue, lmao, it gets debunked by american news sources, its not true, would you like to do a Zoom with my family over in the Ukraine right now Lauren so they can school you on what your media will never tell you? War is horrible, but if you think Putin bad, Ukraine good, war bad, Putin bad, no reason, etc then you dont understand nuance. Stick to beam scores!

Did anyone on here ever say the entire country of Ukraine is a perfect little angel and that the government has done nothing wrong? Nope. But nothing their government has done means that their civilians deserve to be bombed or shot dead in the street while trying to get food or flee, just like no innocent Russian civilians would deserve to be attacked this way in retaliation. No one here is praising Ukraine’s government. We’re talking about a dumbass little wannabe solider who thinks he’s so brave and tough doing gymnastics instead of actually fighting, and cheering on his country as it bombs orphanages all while standing next to an athlete who is unable to return to his family because of the attacks.
